A Battle for Truth and Accountability in Saskatchewan

Have run into hiccup with GFM's AI identity verification. I'm against a legal deadline, therefore a family member's name has been added as a placeholder beneficiary until it's figured out. Every penny is going to my legal defense. Thank you.
My name is Tammy Robert. I'm a longtime writer and researcher on the Government of Saskatchewan and the politics of this tiny, remote province.
I never wanted to be here, asking for your support, but I knew I would be eventually.
Because it finally happened—they sued me.
Specifically, former Saskatchewan Cabinet Minister and current lobbyist at Calgary-based Prairie Sky Strategy, Kevin Doherty.
More than one lawyer has read through the documents I was served last week; all identified it as a means to silence my work on the Government of Saskatchewan, via legal intimidation. However I must defend myself or face a default judgment.
The good news is that I finally have a Saskatchewan lawyer - a really good one. Bad news is he's a senior lawyer and super expensive.
But I need him. Powerful figures like Doherty, alongside allies like ex-radio host John Gormley, have long threatened and intimidated me, attacking my name and work, trying to erase me for telling the truth about the last decade of Saskatchewan government scandal and corruption. To them, I'm not even a person. I'm just a threat that they are determined to eradicate.
This is all part of the same strategy to make me go away that they've been hammering for years. Doherty himself started it nationally when he was in Cabinet, attacking me personally for writing something about Brad Wall that wasn't grossly sycophantic.
I’ve funded my work out of my own pocket, scraped by, and faced the storm of isolation and deliberate marginalization alone. I'll never forget being told by a lawyer in 2018, "They'll never stop not just going after you, but the people around you." That's what happened.
I left the country just to survive - all because I believe in holding power to account in Saskatchewan.
I never want to turn to crowdfunding. It’s hard to ask, and they mock me for it mercilessly.
I've been unpopular. Still am. I write at a million words a year, at least, not one to please anybody. They're always fact-based. Sometimes they’re raw and emotional—so what? Watching this province spiral for over a decade has been gut-wrenching. The pain caused by corrupt, power-hungry, and greedy politicians, especially to the most vulnerable among us, makes me angry.
You should be too. Think about Saskatchewan since 2007 - what could have been if power had been wielded with integrity instead of self-interest.
Thing is, this really isn't even about me.
It's about free speech, freedom of information, and every person in Saskatchewan who deserves transparency and honesty from those in power who have bent over backwards to avoid it. This is a fight against those who believe they should have unfettered power and control over our province, and profit from public resources, yet remain free from public scrutiny or consequences.
The corruption here is rampant, and no one else is saying it. The Sask Party government pours millions in public money into media through ads. Their expectations are communicated clearly with every penny.
They can't do that with me. I'm not perfect, but that's not who I am.
I’ve said what I’ve said, and I feel what I feel.
I’m not apologizing for my emotions, for calling out wrongdoing, or for my passion for a better Saskatchewan. I’m not sorry for being messy instead of silent. I don’t regret having my life turned upside down or being called “crazy” by misogynists, rather than “cowardly” by people who actually matter.
I refuse to let the shitty behavior of either "side"—the Saskatchewan NDP or the Sask Party—flourish unchecked in the name of populist identity politics. I believe Saskatchewan is where it is today because of the past decade of dysfunction and incompetence across the political board in the Legislature. Period.
I’m definitely not sorry for swearing, and I’m not sorry for hurting the precious feelings of those I’ve seen make choices which have unequivocally hurt Saskatchewan people.
In a way, I’m relieved. My audience can confirm that I've felt this circling for months, after my recent return to Saskatchewan soil and tiptoe back into the political realm. The anticipation of what they were going to do next was stressful, worse than its arrival. They’ve wanted this for years, so let’s go.
Except I can’t go alone. Legal battles are expensive, and these suits are designed to drain people like me—independent voices without deep pockets. Your support will help me cover my lawyer for every one of the many, many expensive steps I now have to take to stand up for the truth.
To show the power mongers in Saskatchewan that they may have control at the moment but I - we - will not be punished into silence about it.
So please, if you believe in free speech, in holding power to account, and in a province where no one is above scrutiny, donate. Share this campaign with your friends, family, and networks. Together, we can fight back and win—not just for me, but for all of us.
Thank you for standing with me - some of you for almost ten years now. It is humbling and honouring and I am so eternally grateful.
