My name is Rocio Lopez and I am a professional cellist. I recently finished graduate study in Baroque cello at the San Francisco Conservatory and have started working in the historical performance field. I am currently borrowing an instrument from my teacher and I need to raise money to buy an instrument of my own. In historical performance, I have found my artistic home and I need a good instrument to help me to continue to grow and develop as a musician and to help me establish a career.

I came from Madrid, Spain (where I grew up) to San Francisco three years ago to enroll in the Chamber Music program at SFCM. There I got the chance to start playing a baroque cello and I found a perfect fit for my skills and my musical aesthetic. I followed my degree in chamber music with a degree specializing in Baroque cello and viola da gamba. In the last few years, I have performed with American Bach Soloists, the California Bach Society, the West Edge Opera and the Oregon Bach Festival orchestra. I also took part in the Early Music America “Emerging Artists showcase”, in the Berkeley Festival, playing solo Bach with a Baroque dancer.

I have found a great Baroque cello for sale which I love and which feels like it is “my voice” but it costs 22,000 USD. I have saved enough for a good down payment, but I need to raise the rest of the money.
