A Bakery for Widows and Orphans

Women’s Bakery, Eastern Congo
For the past 20 years, Revivalfire Ministries has been spreading the message of the Gospel across Africa, especially in the difficult places where few others dare to go. The Kivu Lake area is one such area. Situated in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, war has been a constant that has ripped this whole society apart. It is estimated that since 1996, over 6 million people have died. Many place a more current estimate approaching 10 million deaths.

This entire generation has known nothing but rape, murder, and conflict. Sorrow and heartache are the norm, and the surplus of widows and orphans only brings added pressure to a society that knows more of death than life.
It is difficult to describe the despair you find in the Congo. You can feel it in the air as soon as you cross the border. I have pages of testimonies of the women that have been raped and beaten, who have watched their husbands and children brutally murdered before their eyes, and everything in their lives taken from them, including hope.

A group of determined women has decided to stand as a light in this dark place. They are ministering to these women and children not only with their physical needs but also leading them to salvation in Jesus Christ. Revivalfire Ministries has built a bakery for them so they can provide widows with bread to sell out on the streets to support themselves and their children. These women not only give these widows a means of survival, but they take the proceeds from the bread to provide food, blankets, and medicine to the destitute and homeless.

They are bringing hope to the hopeless and Salvation to the lost. Our volunteers are willing to do the work, but they need our support.

Needs:
• $3,000 to open another bakery to help 75 women and 125 orphans in another town where 130 people have been massacred.
• $8,000 for a bus or a van to transport volunteers, bread, and humanitarian needs to various parts of the city.
• $1,000 for more equipment and help to expand our existing bakery to take care of the increasing number of refugees that have been flooding the area.
A final note from Madam Mado, the leader of this group of determined heroes:
“We are fully committed to the obligations to serve the vulnerable women. We will faithfully be more than ready to serve mostly the women affected by civil war and raped and the conflicts in and around South Kivu and the country as a whole.”
Would you help us support them to be a light in this terrible darkness that has engulfed them?
