Help Cherry Get the Medical Mattress She Urgently Needs

My mum Cherry is an incomplete tetraplegic after a spinal cord injury at C5/6. Because she has almost no natural tissue padding, she is at extreme risk of pressure ulcers—the kind that become life‑threatening.

In 2025 she needed major surgery to repair a 14cm deep pressure ulcer. She spent six months in hospital recovering. Since coming home, even sitting up for a few hours caused two new pressure areas, one of which still hasn’t healed and could deteriorate quickly.

Her clinical team has now strongly recommended an Arjo Nimbus Professional alternating mattress. This isn’t a comfort upgrade—it’s essential medical equipment designed to:

protect fragile skin

support wound healing

prevent new ulcers

reduce the risk of further surgery or hospital stays

But this mattress isn’t available through community services, and privately it costs around £5,000, far beyond what we can afford.
