Please help a 13 year old boy with a brain & eye injury
Donation protected
On Sunday 29th June, my friends’ 13-year-old son, Pierce, was involved in freak accident where he fell off of his scooter and the handlebar landed in his eye causing fractures to his skull and face.
He was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London, where he remains under specialist care for a brain injury and severe damage to his eye. He faces a long, difficult and uncertain recovery.
After being placed in a coma and spending time both in intensive care and the high dependancy unit, on Friday 11th July Pierce underwent surgery on his skull. He had a bifrontal craniotomy to repair the base skull fracture and also orbital wall reconstruction which is essentially the roof of the eye socket deep inside the skull.
He also has likely damage to the Oculomotor Nerve which is responsible for allowing the eye to move freely and to open and close the lid. Currently Pierce has ptosis which is a drooping of the eyelid so his eye is permanently closed and this will need specialists to look into this further down the line, alongside assessing his vision.
His mum, Jay, has been staying with Pierce in hospital, while his dad Paul is able to stay close by thanks to the incredible support of the Ronald McDonald House charity.
In a time when their family is under immense pressure, not certain of the extent of the long term damage Pierce may face as a result of this accident, I don’t want Jay and Paul to have the added pressure of worrying finances and future costs when their priority is being in hospital with their son ensuring he has the best support to help him with his recovery.
We’ve set up this page to help with the growing costs ahead due to the extent of Pierces injuries. Let’s support Pierce in his rehabilitation and anything he needs to get back to being the happy, healthy and active child he normally is - and maybe get him a little treat once recovered as his mum says he is being an absolute trooper!
Anyone who is a parent, please just imagine if it was your child in a critical condition in hospital, so any support, a donation, a share, or a kind message — would mean so much
