Greetings, relatives, friends, and supporters of sacred communities,
We are Zintkala Wakan Hoyapi, "Voice of The Sacred Bird," a grassroots spiritual organization based on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. We are a prayer team and a collective of community members united in a common mission, to empower and heal our people (the Oyate) through sacred ceremonies, spiritual guidance, and fellowship.
Why We Need Your Help
The Pine Ridge Reservation, like many Indigenous communities across the United States, has endured the weight of centuries of trauma, from the loss of our homelands to the devastating impacts of the residential school system. Our people are still healing from the historical wounds inflicted during the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890 and its ripple effects that have shaped every part of our lives.
In recent times, nationwide budget cuts have further strained our already under-resourced community, leading to job losses and the shutdown of critical support systems. As a result, many members of our community, including our staff and volunteers, are struggling to meet their basic needs.
But even in the face of adversity, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our people. Our ancestors taught us that when the world feels broken, it is in the coming together of the people, through prayer, ceremony, and collective action, that healing begins.
Our Vision: A Sacred Healing Journey
Our mission is simple, but profound: to empower our Oyate through ceremonies, spiritual fellowship, and innovation. We are answering the spiritual call to come together, to pray, to heal, and to find strength in unity. This work has always been central to our survival, and now more than ever, we must honor our ancestors by continuing their work with intention and heart.
Your support will help us carry out this vital work and create new opportunities for growth and healing.
With your generosity, we will:
- Help Lakota families attend ceremonies by providing funds for travel (gas, food, etc.).
- Support youth involvement in the construction and maintenance of sacred spaces where our prayers are carried out.
- Provide resources for staff, volunteers, and allies who are dedicating their time and energy to this work.
- Fund necessary technical and vehicle support to keep our operations running smoothly and reach as many people as possible.
The resources to sustain these efforts are limited here on the reservation, and every small contribution can make a huge difference. Your donation will not only support the practical needs of our team but also nurture the spiritual renewal of our community.
A Call for Collective Prayer and Action
We are living through a time of great transition, a time when the old ways of being are dissolving, and a new, healed perspective is emerging. We ask for your support as we move forward, transitioning from a place of emotional stagnation and stepping into a future grounded in healing, prayer, and unity. Together, we can walk this sacred path and help the Oyate rise again.
We believe in the power of collective prayer and action. When we come together with one heart and one mind, we can overcome even the greatest obstacles. Now is the time for that coming together.
Lila Wopila Tanka – Thank You
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your support. Every gift, no matter the size, is an offering of healing and hope for our people. With your help, we can continue our sacred work and begin a new chapter of restoration for the Oyate.
