Help Zeb fight to Recover from Anoxic Brain Injury
Donation protected

When Life tries to knock you down, love and support refuse to let it…
The lives of my sister, Jenna and nieces, and nephew have been forever changed. Last month, my sister took her husband to the ER for what seemed simple issue. 12 hours after being admitted my brother-in-law, Zebadee, went into cardiac arrest. He is 35 years old and a father to 5 beautiful children (one of whom passed away suddenly at the age of 11 due to a viral cardiac infection). The cardiac arrest episode left Zeb with an Anoxic Brain Injury. He has spent the past 4 weeks fighting for recovery. The hospital is actively moving forwarding with discharging Zeb, and the family is not in a financial position to pay for his rehabilitative or at home care.
WHAT ZEB NEEDS-- 1.5 YEARS OF MEDICAL NEEDS
Zeb's rehabilitation is promising, however the costs involved are overwhelming and Zeb and Jenna are not eligible for medical assistance. The total at home care and therapies that Zeb needs is not covered by their private insurance. To continue progressing Zeb will need financial help that surpasses the means of the household. All donations will go directly to providing aid for Zeb currently and beyond, costs are estimated for 1.5 years of coverage and rehabilitation including:
- A minimum of 45 day stay at an intense neurological inpatient rehab at the self pay cost of $45,000.
- 30% Coinsurance for durable medical equipment-- Electric Bed, wheelchair, vital monitor, and lifts
- At home skilled medical care -- Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse for total around the clock care, $194,400
- At home health aide to assist with skilled care-- $97,200
- At home occupational, physical, and speech therapies--100 therapy sessions, $15,000
- 30% Coinsurance payment for medical supplies such as wipes, medicine, and IV feeding equipment, blood thinning equipment, trach care supplies
- Medical transport for outpatient appointments
ZEB'S FIGHT BACK
From week to week during this hospitalization Zeb has fought for a complete recovery. He spent one week sedated and intubated. By day 12, Zeb had a tracheostomy and feeding tube, and by day 13 he was taken off the ventilator completely based on his ability to oxygenate on his own. Because of the nature of Zeb's brain injury, medical professionals indicate that the next 6 months are crucial for his recovery.

For Zeb, the fight is far from over. He and his family are steadfast in pursuing a complete recovery. Jenna has not left his bedside. He receives regular visits from family members and has FaceTime calls with extended family members and friends. He is loved, cared for, and protected. Currently, the medical professionals describe Zeb as mildly conscious-- meaning he responds to external stimuli and the environment around him. However, in the past weeks he has progressed in ways that physicians and neurologists said were impossible--Miracles. He is now acknowledging family members, swallowing, and breathing on his own. Talking is difficult be we believe he is trying to speak.
Zeb and Jenna, have been raising 4 children, two high schoolers, a middle schooler and one-first grader. Family outings and activities that were once an important part of their life will be nonexistent for the foreseeable future due to the anoxic brain injury Zeb sustained. The entire family has to adapt to a new way of living and caring for one another with Zeb's recovery at the forefront of that process.
