Please help us give back to the Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA.
Zayden Walsh Akram was born on May 6, 2016 at 5:28am. He could not wait to make his way into the world and decided to join us 3 months and 5 days earlier than his expected due date. He was born at 26 weeks weighing in at 1 pound 13 ounces and was 13 ¼ inches long (a micro preemie).
Many people have asked how we came up with Zayden’s name. We were looking for a name that would suit both of our cultural backgrounds. Zayden is of Celtic-Gaelic origin meaning “little fire”. Zayden is also a variant from the Arabic name Zayd meaning “to prosper”. Little did we know how well this name would fit our little man. Zayden is definitely a little fire and one who prospers through as he is certainly progressing well.
Nothing can quite prepare you for life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or the emotional roller coaster ride that comes along with having a micro preemie. There are many ups, downs and bumps in the road with every moment, a moment of survival. When you finally start to feel like you are taking one step forward that is quickly followed by the feeling of taking two steps backwards. Babies born prematurely require special care in order to make it through the first days and weeks of life.
The NICU at South Shore Hospital is extremely knowledgeable in providing care to sick babies. The doctors, nurses, nutritionists, respiratory and developmental therapists all work together as a team to provide the best medical care possible to these special babies. They have become our family over these past few months and have provided us with support, encouragement and hope. The NICU at South Shore is the first and only community hospital in the state of Massachusetts to receive designation as a Level III NICU and is also affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital where Zayden had open heart surgery.
No words or gestures could ever express how grateful we are to the nurses and doctors in the NICU at South Shore Hospital for having faith in Zayden and helping him through his most difficult times. It is because of them that we will get to take Zayden home in August. Please help us say thank you by making a donation to the Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at South Shore Hospital so that they can continue to help premature and sick babies grow into happy and healthy little humans.
We will be making one lump sum donation collected here to the South Shore Hospital NICU. If you prefer to donate directly to South Shore Hospital NICU you can do so by going to the South Shore Hospital website and selecting NICU under Designation and In Honor of Zayden Akram.
THANK YOU!
