This April, I am taking on the London Marathon. It will be my first full marathon ever and I am so grateful that I can run it in my home city. 26.2 miles is a long way to run, but every step of the way, I will be motivated by an important cause - supporting the power of education.
I am raising funds for three organisations that are incredibly close to my heart. I will be splitting 100% of the funds raised here into three equal parts to support:
- CARAS (Charity number 1124376 www.caras.org.uk): As its name "community action for refugees and asylum seekers" shows, CARAS supports refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives in the UK, through practical, social and education initiatives. My amazing friend Suhashini Thomas works at the charity as the head of learning. I've seen first-hand how hard she and her colleagues work and the impact they are making, particularly on younger refugees before they get a school place, which could take 9 months!
- North Harringay Primary School PSA (Charity number: 1105165): A vibrant North London state school my two daughters attend. Our school has a relatively high percentage of children receiving free school meals in the area (25%) and nearly half of pupils whose first language is not English. Similar to many state schools, our school's budgets are tight. So these funds will help enrich the children's experience by improving facilities, funding extra educational activities, and sponsoring students who otherwise couldn't afford school trips. This includes the famous Year 6 Pendarren residential - a rite of passage and a source of invaluable memories that no child should have to miss out on.
- Thornhill Academy: The non-profit organisation is run entirely by volunteers - including me. It is a one-of-a-kind educational community dedicated to building a bridge between the UK and Chinese professional services communities. We provide aspiring Chinese lawyers and law graduates with the international toolkit and cultural insights necessary for global practice, while helping UK practitioners build the cultural and market intelligence required for successful cross-border collaboration. Your support will allow us to move from volunteer-led sessions to hosting paid experts and high-level specialists, directly increasing the quality of education and opportunity we provide to our unique community.
Why this matters: Whether it’s a disadvantaged child in a London state school, a refugee starting over, or an aspiring law graduate at Thornhill Academy, everyone deserves the resources to learn and thrive. Your donation—no matter the size—will be divided three ways to ensure we are supporting education at every level of our community.
Transparency Note: As GoFundMe does not currently allow for automatic splitting between different types of organisations, I will be receiving these funds into a dedicated account and making the three transfers personally. I will post the receipts and confirmation of these donations in the 'Updates' section of this page as soon as they are made.
Please help me turn every mile into a milestone for these students and learners. I will be particularly thankful as I train through the cold, rainy mornings and long miles.
Thank you for your support from the bottom of my heart!
