Dear Friends,

Our beloved home in Baja California burned to the ground on Oct. 25 at 7:45 p.m. I was in there having dinner with my family when the fire started, and it was a fearful moment that we will never forget. We feel blessed to have survived.

Over the last 20 years, friends and family of the Spadone's called this place home for days and sometimes weeks at a time where we celebrated life over Thanksgiving meals and legendary waves. The unforgettable adventures and slap-stick stories we have created together along side our home will live on and continue to manifest the dreamer in all of us.

The story begins with my grandfather Walter Spadone surfing and lobster diving at this magical little fishing village called Campo Lopez in Baja California. My grandfather gave our family the dream to travel down the Baja peninsula, but it was his tragic death that gave us the inspiration to call it home. In the summer of 1967 my grandfather, Walter Spadone (29), died surfing in one of his favorite places in the world while doing the thing he loved most. Our house was constructed years later right in front of the same wave that took his life.

This home was undoubtedly our little piece of heaven by the beach. From the mosaic tile portraits to the wooden support beams that held our hand crafted surf boards, everything about it was built by the callused palms of our generational family of surfers.

The recent fire took everything; passports, phones, shoes, irreplaceable heirlooms, about a dozen surf boards, and a home that we will never forget. We never thought it could happen to us.

Luckily, we had some of the kindest neighbors that rallied to our aid. They provided us food & shelter and a valiant, albeit failed water-bucket-brigade among other amazing trials that got us back safely to the United States. The real story is about that long-lived surf community of wooden homes and hearts of gold that still remains.

Help us rebuild our lovable home and become a vital part in our recent chapter of our ongoing history. My dad, his brothers, and their friends built this home piece by piece with their bare hands and now it is our turn. We won't be able to do it without you.

Thank You and Looking Forward,
Morgan Walter Spadone
