My name is Paula, and I am a mother of five wonderful children. I am also a psychology major student who has been working with youth both locally and internationally, with a desire to extend my work globally. My Mission is to raise over fourteen thousand dollars by January 30th 2024, for two Primary Schools, in Nzoia County, Kitale, and Nukuru County, Kenya, two villages approximately four, and ten hours from its capital, Nairobi.

Winter of 2021 I had the privilege of visiting Kenya, and witnessed hundreds of school children walking several kilometers in the heat of the afternoon. I inquired as to where were they walking to, or coming from, and was told they walk the long distance to school, then home for lunch, then the long trek back to school, and back home again. I was also informed that the ironic thing is that most of them came to school having eaten no breakfast and will find nothing to eat when they get home for lunch. This did not resonate well with me, as I reflected on my own childhood experiences of growing up in similar circumstances, walking exceedingly long distances to and from school. I was able to empathize with their environment. It is important for ALL children to have nutritious meals to be healthy, and especially for their physical growth, and developing brains to be successful at their studies. Being deeply moved by the children’s valiant effort to learn and succeed with such minimal resources, it became my instant desire to start a breakfast and lunch program beginning with these Schools. To implement these programs, which will be of great benefit to hundreds of primary school children--- these funds will help us to construct and furnish a kitchen with the necessary appliances, and food to cook meals for these children so they can stay in school. Not only will they have hot nutritious meals, but they will be able play with their classmates after lunch, and enjoy their childhood, without having to spend long hours walking these several kilometers back and forth to no avail.

Above is the shed in one of the schools where they sometimes cook lunch for the class 8 students who are studying for exams so they could stay in school, assisted by hard-working teachers dedicating their time to help these graduating students concentrate on preparing for their final exams. The photo above is the area where the kitchen and cafeteria will be constructed.

The kitchen/multipurpose area which will need to be furnished with tables and stools, where the children will be able to sit and enjoy their meals with their peers, will also be used as a play area, and assembly hall for the children on rainy days, meetings for staff, etc.

In addition, these Primary Schools need many repairs, such as the completion of walls in the classrooms, they need windows, doors to prevent the torrential rains during the months-long rainy season, from coming in and flooding classrooms and wetting the students as they learn. Their mud and waterlogged floors need to be finished, bathrooms need repairs, and they need water tanks to supply the children, and help facilitate the kitchen with clean water for preparing their meals. Your much-needed contributions can help us immensely in accomplishing this mission.

Helping me and YHY in this endeavor will mean so much more to us than you can ever imagine, as these children will be able to have nourishing meals which will impact their future in learning without them having to worry about food.
