The purpose of Young Adult Cancer Foundation (YACF) is to support patients and survivors of cancer, 18-39 years old.
Every year, 70,000+ young adults are diagnosed with some form of cancer, which is six times more than combined childhood cancer diagnoses. In the young adult population, cancer is the leading cause of disease related death. This age range is also the only demographic that has not seen an increased survivorship since the 1970's.
There is an abyss in cancer care that occurs between pediatrics and mature adults, and specific needs arise in this population that have been largely overlooked. Fertility counseling, insurance, relationships, education, career planning, and age-appropriate peer support are only a few of the items that become age-specific needs during a young adult cancer diagnosis.
The YACF will support young adult patients through both funding research and providing grants to patients in need of financial aid.
This organization is fueled by dreams of a better future for all patients, and the measurable impact that is to be had in young adult survivorship.
