A Story of Strength: Stephanie’s Journey

Stephanie—known to those of us at McKenzie as “Lamson”—has spent her career putting others first. As a nurse, she shows up for her patients with compassion, resilience, and a kind of care that leaves a lasting mark. She is the kind of nurse people remember—the one who listens, advocates, and truly makes a difference. But her care doesn’t stop at work—Stephanie is also the kind of friend and family member everyone hopes to have. She shows up. She checks in. She is always the first to offer help, comfort, or a listening ear when someone she loves is in need.

In October of last year, Stephanie received a diagnosis that no one ever wants to hear: triple-negative breast cancer, a rare and aggressive form of the disease. Thankfully, it was caught early—but the road since then has been anything but easy. Stephanie has faced this battle with courage and grace and has recently finished chemotherapy—a huge milestone in her journey.

Next, she will undergo a bilateral mastectomy in April, followed by reconstructive surgery and an extended period of recovery. This necessary time away from work will lead to a loss of income, all while bills and medical costs continue to pile up.

Stephanie has given so much to her patients, coworkers, friends, and family. She is always there when we need her—no questions asked. Now, it’s our turn to be there for her.
