Half Ironman for Wingman Foundation

Donation protected
Someone recently told me that doing a Half Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run) might be a bit painful. And also that it might be a bit difficult. And that I'll probably get passed by a lot of old ladies on the swim. I concur with all of these statements. Yet doing things that are physically and mentally difficult are what make people feel alive; it is what makes a difference.
During my race I want to make a difference each step of the way. You will have noticed "The Wingman Foundation" logo on this page. Here is their link (http://www.wingmanfoundation.org/) but let me tell you about them.
The Wingman Foundation was started by friends of mine, all active or former Marine Corps Pilots, as a non-profit organization that gives 100% of it's proceeds to the families of aviators killed in the line of duty. They fill a needed gap, stepping in to provide monetary and emotional support for the families of the fallen. They also have setup scholarships in fallen aviator's memories.
My goal is to raise $100 per mile of my race for a total of $7300 (70.3 miles). However, by no means do I expect each person to contribute $100 - even $1 makes a difference. This money will go directly to the families in need both immediately after an aviation mishap and for the foreseeable future as the family deals with their loss.

I thank you for your contribution, and more importantly; your moral support!

Semper Fidelis,

Matt
