I’m raising money to help my brother Wendell’s recovery from the  major stroke he suffered in February of 2019 and from a broken hip and surgery in  August.

Insurance has paid for most of his care but he still owes hospitals and doctors about $10,000, and he’s incurring ongoing costs for his much-needed therapy. His insurance doesn’t pay for enough in that latter respect.  And, we are still fighting with the VA about getting him healthcare services there.  He also needs help throughout the day, every day, with things like getting in and out of bed, getting dressed and into the shower, and preparing meals. Help that we as a family are not always able to provide, so he has to hire a Home Health Aide for about $30/hour, which alone can cost more than $2,500/week. Private occupational and physical therapy twice weekly each for a year will cost $32,000.

Wendell remains mostly paralyzed on his left side, but he has learned to walk again, and can walk a little with a cane and close supervision (not as well as he could before his fall and hip replacement surgery).  But, in spite of his hard work, he  is still confined to a wheelchair most of the time, and has not YET recovered the use of his left hand or arm, although e believes in his heart that he will.  

His main  goals are: dancing with his three amazing daughters; picking them up in his arms; and, taking them to the park and beach again. He is also intent on running a marathon.  Anyone who knows Wendell knows that he usually does whatever he sets his mind to, but he needs your help with these goals. He can’t reach them alone!  He will use your donations for more frequent therapy treatments and for care from Home Health Aides.
