Help Laura Fight Cancer

Donation protected
On August 14th, 2019 my mom, Laura Posey, was diagnosed with stage 4 (metastatic) inflammatory breast cancer, which is both a rare and aggressive form of the disease. This news hit us all especially hard because we are such a small family, and I live across the country from my mom.

Through a battery of tests, her doctors at Mercy Medical Center were able to create an intensive treatment plan to extend her life. My mom is undergoing rounds of chemotherapy every 3 weeks, 2 anti-HER2 (human epidermal growth receptor 2) drugs every 3 weeks, and she just completed 2 weeks of radiation. My mom has triple positive receptors, which means she can take other medications if any of her current/future therapies stop working. The good news is she has a diagnosis, an excellent team of doctors, and she is currently being treated; however, given the circumstances, there is also a lot of difficult news.

My mom is experiencing a multitude of side effects that make her ill and her symptoms are preventing her from working. Her body is battling so much right now, she barely has the strength to function normally. Even though she is hurting, she continues to have a positive outlook.

If our friends and family or anyone else feels compelled, we are asking for donations to help my mom continue her care. The funds would go toward medical expenses, transportation, and everyday living expenses. I can’t bear the thought of my mom not being able to attend my wedding or not living long enough to see her grandchildren because we were too afraid to ask for help. She has been so supportive of me in my life, and I want to help show her the same level of encouragement. We are eternally grateful for all of the support we have received, and we thank every single person who has prayed for her. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts.

Know the signs and symptoms of this aggressive form of breast cancer and check yourself. Early diagnosis is key, and with the proper intervention, a life can be extended.
