Help Preserve West Orange’s Last Big Forest
In the heart of the in New Jersey's Watchung Mountains lies a beautiful and rare 120-acre forest which is home to the headwaters of Canoe Brook, wetlands, steep ridges, and mature trees. This green space is under threat of being developed into nearly 500 housing units.
Why is preservation of this forest important?
Preserving this last large core forest will help solidify the creation of an interconnected greenway, linking together existing open spaces and catalyzing the preservation of additional lands.
This land is sacred to the Lenape Tribe. Preservation will prevent more indigenous land from being developed.
Benefits include:
- Reduced flooding and stormwater runoff
- Preserved, protected and clean drinking water supply
- Increased open space and natural habitat in an area with little public open space

- Support to human health, healing, community connections, and quality of life

That’s why the nonprofit WeCare NJ Corp. was founded: to protect this unique landscape and our community’s safety, water quality, and character.
