Hanging Loose Ryan picture by picture To All That Love Any Of The Donnelly Family Members,
Ryan Donnelly has a superpower. No one on Earth is more, well, Ryan than Ryan. He is That Guy. If you hang with Ryan, chances are your gut hurts from laughing and you like, (or at least tolerate) Busch Lattes. You’ve taken a selfie with the iconic, surprised look on his face, and you expect his ‘hang-loose’ sign to flash when you run into him? If you hang with Ryan, you hang with his family. Maybe his marriage to his better half, Misty brought him into your family. Maybe you’ve lost your voice standing next to him and his mother Lisa, as the Griz explode out of the tunnel on a crisp fall Saturday afternoon. Some have wandered the 4H barns with him as he supports his youngest girls, Harleigh and Mabel doing their thing in the ring and racking up the belt buckles. Or have you enjoyed a country music festival with him and his amazing wife Misty when Chief Two Feathers brings the fun? Were you with him and Jord on one of their epic hunting trips to the cabin? Maybe you called him inquiring about his donkey for sale. (Hahaahaa, Good one Kenz!) Those two are crazy. Like father, like daughter.
Were you a fierce Spartan that walked the halls of the purple and gold, high fiving him as you passed by? S, EN, TINEL, SPAR, TANS and WE ARE THE BEST! (Sorry. Had to.) Did you meet him in Great Falls at the dirt track sharing the need for speed? You may have tossed a line in the water with him, or taken one of the many pictures of him and his fish. Extending his arms toward the camera as much as possible taking full advantage of skewed depth perception as to maximize the length of his catch. Did you sit by a raging fire while camping with Ryan? Next to his state of Montana flag that travels with him everywhere he goes, Jammin’ to the Beastie Boys or discussing what Eminem song is the best?
Some of you are co-workers. Those that he joined digging lines to stop the spread of a wildfire near his home last summer. Lines to protect his new neighbors and surrounding areas. Co-workers that helped him as he dug a line around his own home to protect his family and all they owned from the flames. No matter how you know the guy, you know he’s the real deal. He is who he is, and we all love him for it. Now let’s get on with it. We don’t need all this shit to go to his head.
Let’s cut to the chase. You are aware that about one year ago to the day, cancer picked a fight with Ryan. One surgery to remove an ironically football sized tumor and one kidney was the fix. Done. Just like that. He found out he had cancer and beat it all in less that a month. Only D could do that. Well, here we are a year later, and the cancer is back. It decided it wanted another round with Ryan. It’s bigger and stronger than it was before and is requiring much more of a fight this time.
Ryan, and his family are giving it all they have. Physically, emotionally, and financially. As the treatments are working, they are also taking much more from Ryan than he had anticipated, and the side effects are proving to be intense. He had every intention to work while kicking cancer’s ass, but has made the difficult decision that for now, it is in his best interest to fully concentrate on his health and this new battle. Leaving the job he took because it truly made him happy won’t be easy, but necessary for the time being. So, now is the part where we ask all of you for help. The monthly bills are just too much for one income and it is becoming more and more uncertain how, and if, they will be covered.
There’s another fire creeping in and it’s our turn to dig a line around Ryan and his family to protect them. This fundraiser is being started so that all of us can keep this awesome family afloat and allow Ryan a little breathing room while he gives all he’s got to his fight. As the saying goes, anything helps. That is so true. If a monetary gift is something you’d like to help with, please feel free to use this link knowing all funds are protected and will go directly to Ryan and Misty Donnelly for mortgage, utilities and other monthly bills.
On behalf of the Donnelly Family, thank you so much for taking the time to read about Ryan’s story. This fundraiser will periodically be updated with his medical stuff, but also with friends’ and family’s stories of their own about Ryan. I for one, cannot wait to read them. If you’d like to share a story you have about Ryan , a thought, words of encouragement, or your vote for the best Eminem song, please email it to me at [email redacted]. Check back to read them all and let’s get er’done. Right Ryan?
