From your heart to Wayne's-Transplant Fundraiser

Anyone that has been a part of the Aqua Culture Swim School family, undoubtedly knows Wayne Ziegler.  Mr. Wayne’s passion for bringing awareness to families that “Drowning is Preventable” is what led Mr. Wayne and Mrs. Leslie to start Aqua Culture Swim School & Training Center nearly twenty years ago.  (from their website...) “While in the planning stages we realized that we wanted to do more than build just another pool and teach kids the front crawl. If we were going to pour our lives into something it needed to be bigger than that. We see teaching swimming and water safety as an opportunity. An opportunity to invest our lives in your children and accomplish our mission of growing happy, healthy, responsible kids who love to learn.”  Mr. Wayne took this mission to ‘heart’, devoting his life to teaching children and adults of all ages how to swim safely, educating them about water safety, how to save lives and drowning prevention skills.  No matter the age; babies, toddlers, teens, and adults; every life is precious to him.  Wayne and Leslie poured their hearts into this mission and along the way created more than a swim school... they created a family.

We are asking our Aqua Culture family and friends to pour out your hearts to help Mr. Wayne.  In 2017 he was diagnosed with a heart condition that has kept him on a very long journey to find the right treatment. There were many days that Mr. Wayne was not feeling well, as he struggled due to fatigue, suffered many side effects of medications, or endured procedures being done to treat his condition, yet he kept teaching despite his ailments.  His family, students and their families, the Aqua Culture staff, and many others in the surrounding swim community are what has kept him going month after month.  In May of 2020, his doctor informed him that he was in need of a heart transplant along with a kidney transplant and they began the process of putting him on the transplant list.

There have been many additional struggles along his journey.  While being treated in the hospital for his heart condition, he contracted the Covid-19 virus, which resulted in him being taken off the transplant list until he recovered from the virus.  Thankfully, after a few weeks, he finally recovered from Covid and was placed back on the transplant list.  He has had good days and bad days along the way, and everyone’s thoughts and prayers have sustained him, along with the many cards and pictures that have been sent to him.

Mr. Wayne was in University of Maryland Hospital for over four months and was recently transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in February.  Your continued prayers are coveted, as his journey is far from over, physically, and financially.  Health insurance will cover some things, but surprisingly with transplants, not everything.  The medical bills have already been huge and continue to add up quickly. The additional costs post-transplant will only add to the financial burden that has been placed on Mr. Wayne and Mrs. Leslie.  Costs associated with the transplant during and after could be hundreds of thousands of dollars. The funds raised will assist them in covering anything insurance does not, including but not limited to monthly rejection medications, transportation costs to and from appointments, home PT, specialized exercise equipment at home and possibly some home improvements to accommodate his needs.

We have set up this Go Fund Me account to help ease this burden on the Ziegler’s, allowing them to focus on Wayne’s recovery, so he can get back to his family at home, and his Aqua Culture family and friends at the swim school.  We ask that you give from your heart what you are able, and to feel free to share this Go Fund Me link with others.

No gift is too small when giving from the heart.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
