My beloved partner of 25 years has taken their journey on Thursday, January 08, 2026.

While it’s hard to process this, it’s also taking its toll on me as I start the process of making the funeral arrangements.

One of my partner requests was to be at the same place where I would eventually have my final resting which I came to the conclusion of Phoenix, AZ. We met in Phoenix then work, played, and lived so it is appropriate to have our resting place in the Valley of the Sun. Since there are several barriers that I have encountered as my partner is not an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation but our commitment to one another over 25 years would make our relationship fall under “common law marriage.” My goal is to take him home to my community of Teec Nos Pos, Arizona and/or Gallup, New Mexico.

As I begin the planning, one of the first tasks is making sure my partner is in the hands of a funeral home that could accommodate my request for transporting my beloved partner with proper preparations in Phoenix then start the daunting journey to his final resting place.

One memory my partner shared often was his college graduation, in which he treasured his suit that he wore that was in burgundy brown color, as that would be his clothing attire, a lovely Navajo bolo-tie, and dress shoes. Prepping and purchasing clothing is another expense that will accrue with this request.

Just recently inquiring of selecting a funeral home is another task that would be included in this ask since it’s quite expensive to transport a body from Phoenix to Gallup. I came to the conclusion that we would both feel at home in Phoenix, AZ

After my partner arrives in Gallup, then a graveside memorial service will be conducted.

It’s still so surreal that I am in this position to plan my beloved partner funeral arrangements which I am reaching out to the community to request assistance. Whatever you are able to contribute will truly be appreciated.
