Hello! Pawsitive Strides & Paw-House Calls and Western Hills Humane Society came together and are raising awareness, support, and donations for 8 of the 17 dogs involved in the house explosion on June 21st. 

The Director of WHHS and Pawsitive Strides & Paw-House Calls are collaborating to give these dogs the best care possible, and the best enrichment of life that we can during this traumatic time for them. However, we cannot do it alone. We need our community's help, and this may be a crisis you probably didn't know was happening. Now you do, and now you can make the difference when they couldn't control the change.

On the evening of Sunday, June 21, 2026, a devastating and detrimental house explosion occurred in our area. As a result, 17 innocent dogs were caught in the blast.

Only 5 of the 17 dogs have been safely transported to Western Hills Humane Society in Spearfish, SD. These dogs have suffered burns, lacerations, and trauma from the explosion. While we are incredibly grateful that all 17 have been reported as accounted for, many are still facing a long road to recovery.

At this time, several have already been rescued and are receiving immediate medical care, but many more will require continued treatment, medications, wound care, and safe places to heal.

They didn’t choose this life—but you can change it.

Our local shelter, Western Hills Humane Society, is now at or near capacity trying to care for these dogs along with the many animals already in their care.

They urgently need:

FOSTER HOMES – to give these dogs a safe, quiet space to recover

DONATIONS – to cover critical and ongoing medical expenses

Every donation will go DIRECTLY to Western Hills Humane Society to support the care, treatment, and recovery of these 17 dogs.
