Moving expense to house w/no stairs
WoW this is harder than I thought ... left this window up since Fr night on the computer (its Sun am). How do you put it all into words? All that has happened since Nov 2014 & has changed / will continue to change my family in ways would have never dreamed. Ok, so here I go with what "they " say to write! .
"Who you are": An average low/middle class family just loving living life in sw FL after living in too many states (due to job transfers) over our 30 years of marriage. We moved here to be closer to my family and because Bill's company had a branch here. We are blessed with 3 wonderful children who are now 25, 19 & 17. Our lives have been turned inside out the last year and a half due to some personal issues our children have had & then Bill's medical illness.
The medical stuff started simply with type 2 diabetes, diagnosed (2/09). The diabetes has led to diabetic retinopathy (2/15) & end stage renal disease (4/15). Hemo dialysis started and then peritoneal (overnight at home) dialysis (8/15). And we had a somewhat normal life for awhile . . .
Bill had a couple minor procedures, implanted loop recorder (6/20/16) after Afib diagnosed due to possible TIA Mother's Day. Blessed to have doc who did transplants in Ft. Myers re-do his peritoneal catheter (7/26/16).
June 10, 16 we went to Tampa to start the process to get on the kidney transplant list. One of the doctors on that team wanted Bill to have a heart cath due to risk factors, which led us to a heart doc who said he would not do a heart cath because of the TIA.
Then it seemed everything exploded in August of this year, after a long car ride (for a celebration of life service) Bill started having "issues" on the way home. Then he was hospitalized w/what they thought was a pulmonary embolism. Two days later on 8/31/16 an emergency heart cath led to a stroke & aphasia.
"Who (or what) you're raising money for": Old medical bills which we can not pay, but also some basic living expenses that have become more than we can do and possibly even harder in the near future. We have contemplated moving N from Naples (The economy here was not as damaged as most in the recession, however due to foreclosures rent has sky rocketed.) And living expenses are high due to influx of seasonal / international residents. We drive an older car which needs some work, and we have not been able to work that into the budget. We want to help our children with higher education, possibly vo tech school. All our savings and 401K are gone, going to pay expenses and medical bills over the past year and a half. Bill was approved for medicare (due to dialysis) in July 2015 but the rest of the family is still uninsured.
"How soon you need the funds" Well some bills are old & have been turned over to collection. Others are not even here yet and we do not know what the future holds with Bill's employment, While I have a part time job & continue to look for something more permanent, due to Bill not being able to drive, more than part time is just not doable at this time. The children who live at home are working part time & get the things they want and are saving for school. Also, please know we will honor any requests for money to go to a specific place.
"Why this means so much to you" We were just an average family like so many whose life has been turned upside down due to medical stuff. You see it is not just the medical bills it is also the emotional impact this stuff has. Bill is only 58 and we are not going to give up the fight to see him healthy again from this awful disease we (as do most) thought was not that big of a deal called type 2 diabetes.
"How thankful you will be" Hmmmm, those that know me I hope know the answer to this. How do you put this into words, the humility we have due to all of this is tremendous. The lessons learned about what & yes who really matters, have been difficult. We had bouts w/unemployment in the past & had to get help, but this is so different . . . Yes, of course, we will be thankful, actually not sure we can continue without your help right now & that is hard to admit. Bill has always been the "bread winner" and when he had to take a step down at his job due to the eyes in May '15 it was hard. But with Gods help we have somehow managed over the last year. I have been a stay at home Mom, for about 15 years (we home schooled for about 10 years) & while looking for work the past couple years, (our youngest went to ps in March '14) have discovered how hard it is to find permanent employment that pays descent in a "seasonal" town. So... yes, we will be thankful to all of you for ANY amount you can give. We know some can not give and we understand that as well. Also know that, what we need most is prayers ... only Jesus can truly turn this around & heal Bill completely & that is what we would be most thankful for. In the meantime, we ask you to help us pay the earthly docs & continue to get by.
We try to live our lives as Christ would have us to, but know we have/will continue to fail. If you have ? we ask that you ask those privately as we try not to have judgement & ask for the same respect. However, forgiveness is sweet & if you don't know Jesus ~that is the most important thing & we would be honored to answer those questions.
If you got through all this, thanks for reading & if you are able to help, we truly do appreciate it. We, after lots of thought & prayer (and being told to numerous times ;) ) have decided to provide this avenue & opened a paypal account, contact me for that information ... or if you want more details about our journey. I have done updates to family & close friends and would be happy to share those. thanks . . . Bill and Carolyn (Sergent) Scott
