Volvo V70R - Manual Swap How-to Video

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

First off, thanks so much for visiting my gofundme page.

BACKSTORY:

I've been a Volvo fanatic ever since my mother's Volvo 740 Intercooler wagon. It had over 400,000 miles on it! I grew up in Volvos and when I could afford my own in 2007, I purchased a 1996 midnight blue 850 GLT. She was glorious.

PRESENT DAY:

Just this past October I discovered and purchased my dream car: a 2005 Volvo V70R. It was just within my price range so I went for it. After driving the car around for the past week or so, I discovered why it was within my price range...There are several replacements that are needed to get the car back to 100%..but most importantly.. it needs a new transmission. I've dreamt of having a 6-speed manual wagon ever since I knew they existed and now is my chance to have one.. Well, to CREATE ONE!

Who will benefit from my campaign?
The entire Volvo community. Anyone browsing around the Volvo community would quickly discover that the manual V70R is a unicorn and the manual swap project has become a popular project to achieve 6-speed manual glory. Many Volvo enthusiasts out in the world have already completed this manual transmission swap yet no one (that I know of) has done a video documentation of the process, from start to finish. Through this campaign, the community will learn everything I have (and will) learn about the transmission swap process on a P2 chassis. Most importantly, many will learn that it IS possible for a DIY mechanic to achieve! I've always benefitted from someone forging the path forward and then showing me their mistakes. So may goal is to provide my journey so that others may take this project on with greater ease!

What will the funds be used for?
The funds I'm raising will be put towards parts, tools, lift time, a computer tune (probably Hilton) and a Volvo consultant local to me in LA. If there's any extra funds leftover I will donate back to the community. I'm not sure how this will work but I'll figure it out! I have benefitted so much from people like RobertyDIY and the entire Swedespeed community so I'd like to give back.

When do I need the funds?
I'd like to spend the entire month of November as a fundraiser. My plan is to work on the car throughout December with a goal of having the work completed by January 1st, 2021. I already have the car, so the hard part is done. The other piece to the puzzle is finding a M66 transmission and all the associated OEM parts..and I found one last week!

What will the support mean to me?
Having the opportunity to give back to the Volvo community is the most important aspect of this project. Over the years of my Volvo ownership, I've learned so much from fellow Volvo owners, enthusiasts, and mechanics. It's time for me to give back!

Grateful:
The Volvo ownership community has been perhaps the most welcoming and helpful group of people that I'm a part of. Any donation that you can make will be greatly appreciated!

Additional thoughts:
If you would like to contribute to this project in other ways like parts donations, guidance, or otherwise I'm open to all ideas! Feel free to hit me up!

All the best,
Austin
