The Persian Gulf War Veteran with the amputated leg in the above picture is known as "Grandma Mary", by us at VictoryByVeterans.org. She is a grandmother who works on her feet as an RN.
She needs a new prosthetic, or to improve her present one, but her injury lawyer took so much of her "medical bills funds" for his fees that she cannot now afford a new leg! The money her lawyer charged and deducted from her medical fund amounted to over $10,000.00/ HOUR!!!
What added insult to the injury of such a crazy high fee was Grandma Mary's obvious injury was a no-risk, no-lawsuit, "shuffle some papers" claim for her lawyer, and the insurance companies admitted fault!!! This type of claim does not require top lawyer skills and high fees.
To make matters worse, her lawyer first met her in the hospital. He had Grandma Mary sign a terrible contract when she was lying in bed with a partially amputated leg and groggy under the effects of strong, opiate painkillers!

LAWYERS GET A NEW DEAL! In the1930's Great Depression, the individual state governments' bars standardized the injury contingent fee at 1/3rd (or 33.3%) to create a social program designed to subsidize the standard of living for lawyers with "free money" for referring injured people to injury lawyers.
The "free money" lawyers' referral finders' fees program is designed to be supervised by the Judicial Branch. Of the 33% "standard fee", 22% is paid to the "working lawyer" and 11% is paid (usually behind the clients' backs) to the "non-working lawyer" who found the injured person and referred her to the working lawyer. It is a finder's fee system. The governments' "free money" programs are generally modeled after the ABA's Model Rule 1.5(a-e).
The "free money" system is a way for lawyers to be able to make more money because, back in the 1930's, lawyers believed that they are the profession that should produce the leaders of American society. It was originally reasoned by the lawyers, who the US Constitution allows to regulate themselves, that if the lawyers were going to be the leaders of America, they needed a higher standard of living during the tough times of the Great Depression. The "free money" system is alive and well to this day. (Except in Colorado)
The "free money" program redirected approximately $25 Billion dollars from injured clients medical bills funds to "non-working lawyers" wallets in 2016. But VictoryByVeterans.org is designed to provide veterans' families with information and support to help prevent veterans from losing their money to unnecessary "free money" lawyer fee program(s).

VictoryByVeterans.org was founded by a veteran and “whistleblower lawyer", Mark Moran. Mark Moran was a successful lawyer who participated in the lawyers' referral finders' fee kickback program for decades and he received a lot of "free money" fees.
Mark also successfully represented a man through the US Supreme court and eventually won that case. Mark donated over Four Thousand (4,000) pro bono (free) hours in that hard-fought cause involving a union lawyer who volunteered to testify in front of a grand jury in order to clean up the corruption in the FELA personal injury lawyer field.
Mark Moran and his client went through a meat grinder in that case. However, along the way, Mark Moran discovered a lot of information about the secret referral finders' fee kickback program that the government began for railroad workers' lawyers

Founder Mark Moran was shamelessly threatened by other lawyers with an officially requested court order that would fine Mark if he revealed more about the injury fee system in a public court.
