Vicki Dunn -Conquer, Believe & Hope

On January 10, 2018, we discovered that our beloved Vicki has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC).    It goes without saying that this is an incredibly shocking and emotionally overwhelming diagnosis for Vicki and her loved ones to process.

Those who know Vicki understand what a powerful force of positivity she has been throughout her 44 years of life.  This has not changed with her diagnosis.  Vicki is determined to enter fully into the brave adventure of her healing.  We are asking for you to come alongside her to fight this terrible disease – to hold her up and cheer her on with your support, love, and prayers. Her war cry has been: “Let’s think nothing but good thoughts!!  I will need lots of strength and laughter! And hats…don’t forget the cute hats!!!”

Vicki and her husband, David, have been married for over 13 years.  She is an incredibly dedicated and loving mom of three amazing children, ages 13, 11, and 9.  Those who know Vicki will tell you that she lights up a room with her unfailing optimism, statuesque beauty, and playful humor.  She is a gifted artist and has worked extensively to further hone her craft.

Just three weeks before her diagnosis, Vicki had followed her heart and decided to leave the security of her corporate job as a senior designer to focus on her children in these important years.  To be able to tutor her sons directly while still maintaining an income as a contractor and freelance illustrator was going to be the beginning of a much more fulfilling and stable environment for their family to thrive.   While a bold move, it now impacts the livelihood of her family because she no longer has the benefits of her health insurance, sick time, vacation time, or disability.  It is anticipated that she will be unable to work during this time due to the side effects of the medication and the exhaustion of radiation treatments.

Vicki and Dave have already taken strong steps to gather as much information as possible to fight this aggressive form of cancer, including consultations with Mass. General Hospital, U Mass, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  The doctors have urged Vicki to begin treatment right away, so she will be receiving intensive  chemo treatment for the next five months.  After a short-period of recovery from the chemo, she will then undergo surgery (it is recommended that she have a double mastectomy). This will be followed by radiation for at least seven more weeks depending on the extent of the area.   Even with David’s health insurance, it is anticipated that there will still be very high deductibles and out-of-pocket costs for treatments. We are asking for donations to help alleviate these health care expenses, so the Dunn family can focus on providing the best care for Vicki, without the added stress of astronomical medical bills and the financial burdens of missed work, frequent travel to the hospital, childcare, and trying to cover the necessities of life.

There are so many of us that have been devastated by the scourge of cancer in our lives.  Vicki is so precious to so many of us.  We want nothing more than for her to be back to her glorious, healthy self as quickly as possible – to further bless the world with her amazing creativity, her joy for life, and her indomitable spirit. In the meantime, we are going to celebrate every moment of each day with her.

Thank you SO much for your donations and for walking with our family on this courageous journey of love!
