My childhood dream has been to become a vet. Coming from a low income, working class family this dream seemed almost unachievable.

Like most people who want to make it, I’ve had to work hard with my studies.

I’ve completed a BSc Science degree over 3 years, and with the variety of animal experience I’ve acquired through my life I believed I was an ideal candidate to begin veterinary studies. I was rejected with all my applications last year.

To give myself the best chance I enrolled and completed a masters degree during the last year and spent as much time as possible doing voluntary work at many establishments that care for the widest range of animals.

I applied to study to become a vet again when the new academic year begins in September/October and was fortunate enough to be accepted by Surrey University.

This is a bitter sweet moment for me.

All of my grants have been claimed and used for my previous degree. I am currently working and trying to save what I can.

The veter
inary study fees are £9k per year. The studies last for 5 years.

These opportunities are often untouchable for people like me.
