Help Fund Veterans Recovery Music Program
My name is Jo-El Tapia and I have been the music teacher at Veterans Village of San Diego for the last 6 years. I started as a volunteer when I was 23 years old and was struggling through depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide. Little did I know that this program would save not only my life but hundreds of veterans lives to come. Im asking for your help. This
incredible program was one of the many things that has been cut out of Veterans Village curriculum.
This program teaches veterans not only to play guitar but to read music, write music, and work hard towards a brand new
guitar when they graduate. It gives men and women a sense of pride and accomplishment while recovering from substance abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, amongst other things. It is something that the residents look forward to every week.
I know there’s a lot happening in the world right now. I understand that there’s so much uncertainty. This program has
meant everything not only to me but to a lot of people at VVSD.
Please help keep this program alive.
Sincerely,
Jo-El Tapia
