I am the aunt...but this family is the closest I have to my own. They struggle...always have. We have had to help a few times but mostly they have been on their own.
My nephew has worked all his adult life. His work ethic is amazing to me. He does construction jobs...about anything! My brother died when he was 10, I think about how much easier and better his life would have been had Barry lived. I KNOW Barry would be proud of him as a father. He is a DOWN ON THE FLOOR dad!
My nephew has worked for his stepdad for years, as an electrical contractor and for a couple other contractors doing rehabs. Working for his stepdad is no longer a stable situation.
He had addiction issues before the kids were born, and has been clean since - over 10 years. His wife is back to work with the kids all in school, but with his job loss it is not enough to make ends meet. More importantly it has been humiliating as he has always been the bread winner. Hiding it from the kids has been their goal. The kids have always come first with them, THEY go without, not the kids.
I am very concerned with his mental well-being. They are 3 months behind in rent again and being asked to move. My plan is to meet with their landlord and see what can be done. I know he has before extended time as Ry does rehab on the house. Regardless...my goal is to get him help and keep a roof over their heads in the meantime. THEN we can work on getting him employed somewhere where the COMPANY has an actual payroll and does taxes, has a health plan and maybe a 401k. (being a contractor and no high school degree figuring those things out is nearly impossible, and I know there are also tax problems!) So bi-weekly budget planning is now going to be a must.
They need help NOW and did not ask for it until I pestered. I can remember struggling in my 20's from paycheck to paycheck. And I was SINGLE with a decent education. I cannot even begin to imagine the stress they are constantly under.
He did not think he needed help before, I know it was because he was afraid of not working to get the help. I need to make at least the financial worry right now go away. This is the only way I can do it. Any donations would be incredibly appreciated and enable me to get him help while keeping the family in a home.
