When smooth sailing is not smooth.........KABOOM!

Hi, this is Paige. I will be unhoused by July 15th, 2024. I have not been able to pay any rent starting back on March 5th, 2024. I have had ‘non profits’ help with part of my rent these past for 3 months. I am behind $2000.00. I have worked diligently to find a job for the last 28 months in the world of Human Resources and other fields. More than 1000+ applications later and with little response I thought I could work in my field of HR. There are over 250k+ people out of work in the US in my industry (if not more).

I knew this employment nightmare has been here way too long and there is no end in sight. So, I am down to 2 bills. Rent and car insurance.

I belong to LinkedIn and the life experiences we are ‘all’ going through is so very sad. So many are ready to lose everything. Now it is my turn. I have finally run out of savings and unemployment. I am currently in the Washington DC area (Kensington MD) and I am attempting to get back to my home town for multiple reasons on the west coast. One being medical. The heat/humidity is a huge factor, it makes me ill and becomes physically painful for my joints. I am 61 and come with many physical disabilities. One is heat, the other is arthritis in most of my joints.

Friends seem to disappear when one is having a very difficult time. For me, asking for anything is very difficult. I am looking to raise $4800.00 to make it to the west coast & pay my rent debt. and to help survive until I land a job (God willing). Why the west coast? It is much cooler in Oregon during the summer, so living in the car will be survivable with my 2 fur babies.

I continue daily in my job search, however, I need to get from my apartment here in Maryland (DC) to cooler weather in Portland OR so I can make it living in my Beetle during the summer. I am broken inside. Friends have been telling me to please not give up just because I feel pressured by naysayers and judgmental people. But I don’t think the majority of people understand what it is like to put your humanity up for debate.
