Freezer to feed the kids

Can you help???  Visalia Emergency Aid Council Food Pantry Freezer  has died after 25 years of faithful service, taking about 2,000 lbs of food with it.  Here is our story!

Visalia Emergency Aid Council established in 1931 as an emergency food pantry for dust bowl immigrants migrated to the fertile fields of the San Joaquin Valley in California in search of a better life.  Today, our food pantry serves over 4,000 working poor families each year, helping provide supplemental groceries to help make ends meet.    The on-going drought has resulted in an increase in the needs for services as so many in our ag based economy are experiencing cuts in hours and wages!   The trickle-down effect of the drought affects so many, the local grocer, the local barber and retailers as less disposable income is availble for the minimum wage worker.   In June 2014 alone we provided supplemental groceries to over 100 families for the first time.

This freezer is vital to our ability to buy in bulk for the best price and keep stock on hand to serve those in need.  Our average family visits our pantry 2-3 times per year, truly in times of financial stress.  We don't want the working poor to choose between paying the rent or feeding their families.  We also serve about 100 seniors on fixed income each month.  Your donation, however large or small will go a long way in helping us replace our freezer.
