USMC -Repair Disaster Renovation

Donation protected
A military veteran needs help.

After purchasing her first home, this Marine Corps veteran hired a contractor to add an addition to the upstairs, including extending the roof, adding a bathroom and creating a therapeutic art studio. A contract was signed and she thought all was well.

Instead, three months later, he walked off the job with no explanation but a trail of expletives and racial insults – leaving an open roof, unfinished plumbing, open siding – while taking both the roofing material and over half the monies the veteran paid. The veteran discovered that the contractor had also been working without a permit and that his plan to renovate was not structurally sound.

Winter has passed,  summer is in full swing and the frame is finally up.  But the cold wearther is slowly creeping back upon us and the upstairs is still only a vast shell. The cost thus far has exceeded the insurance monies and the remaining costs are well over  $100,000.

 Background on her:

She has been in the Marine Corps since 1995 and served two tours in Iraq, receiving a Combat “V” for Personal Achievement in her Superior Performance of her duties while stationed in the Al Anbar Province  during the second tour. Upon her return, she was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, serving as the USMC liaison to severely wounded personnel. Currently on active reserve status, she is now attached to USSouthCom in Miami, and was deployed to Haiti, including tours with the Navy medical ship, USS Comfort.

The therapeutic art room she is building will serve as a means for her to manage her PTSD; with which her work with other wounded warriors also helps.

If you can assist in any way, thank you.
