We are United with Kenya (UwK), a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit organization that has been transforming lives in rural Kenya for over 19 years. Our focus is on water, health and education. A major educational derailment for girls is menstruation. Especially, when she has no latrine with running water to wash, is teased, or can’t afford sanitary napkins. Unfortunately, often her solution to avoid shame and taunting is to not go to school. She will often miss up to 5 days of school each and every month. This puts her further and further behind in her studies, increases her risk of dropping out entirely, and threatens her lifetime opportunities.

Our Menstruation Equity Project will be comprehensive. We will build a menstruation friendly latrine to provide running water for girls to wash. We will create a Comic Book for girls and boys that addresses menstruation facts and myths to mitigate against teasing and shaming. We will develop a pilot community-based Sewing Collective to produce reusable pads.

As with all UwK projects, we will partner with local Kenyan community groups and organizations. No administrative fees will be deducted from your donation, 100% will go to helping girls manage their periods and stay in school.

Your support will be used to:

● Provide piping and building materials for the menstruation friendly lavatory

● Create illustrations, print, and distribute the comic book

● Provide fabric and materials for sewing affordable reusable pads

This project is about creating lasting change at the intersection of health, education, and economic development.
