'Unexpecting' - Short Film

***UPDATE***

Thank you all for your generous support to get us over the line and see our dreams realised. We were able to create a a special film and one that we can all be proud of. We are in a great position to enter film festivals, but we have one final request to help us enter them.

Festivals have entry fees and admin costs which we can't cover by ourselves, but we are certain of how well this film will do if we can enter the ones we want to. We are asking all of our wonderful donors and any new supporters to donate £5 or £10 if possible, to help us keep the momentum going and support us getting our film onto the world stage - where it belongs. We are incredibly proud of what we have created and we know in the right festival it will do well and hopefully win a few too!

We have increased the target to realise this and with just £5 or £10 from each person, we will smash this in no time.

Once again, thank you for your kindness and genorisity to get us to this point - it's truly appreciated!

An unexpected pregnancy causes an unspoken divide between a new couple, as they chaotically search for a way forward.

The Story

Danielle has unexpectedly fallen pregnant. She’s known the father, Callum, for a few months. Monogamous Danielle has a promising career ahead of her, whereas Callum is a womanizer with self-destructive tendencies. When Danielle visits Callum to talk about their future as parents, she is confronted by his two flatmates, Huxley and Jordan, who have opinions of their own.

In one room, Danielle discusses her pregnancy with the enigmatic owner of the flat, Huxley, who only worsens her mental wellbeing. At the same time, a very different conversation is going-on in the adjacent room as Callum talks things through with his closest confident, Jordan.

Will Danielle and Callum align on their potential future as parents or will this pregnancy divide them?

Unexpecting is a gritty drama about the chaotic nature of decisions that impact us for the rest of our lives. It explores concepts of unplanned pregnancy, social norms and human behaviour under pressure.

     Writer’s notes

Have you ever been faced with an anxiety-inducing decision that has caused you to question your own integrity? At its heart, Unexpecting interrogates the chaotic and messy nature of the decisions that impact us for the rest of our lives. Although the choice ultimately rests with Danielle, she must decide how much the opinions and expectations of those around her actually matter.

     Who are we?

     Hey there!

We are four ambitious Master's students studying Acting for Screen at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. It's been a memorable yet challenging year, studying the art of screen acting against the backdrop of COVID-19, yet we are now in a brilliant position to combine everything we've learnt and create a short film; written, produced and directed by us.

This project will not only be exploring a topic we all share a passionate interest in, but will be a platform to showcase our talent and push us valiantly forward into our careers upon graduation this summer.

Our aim first and foremost, is to create a beautiful, thought-provoking film that will challenge our perception of film-making and equally entertain our audience. We plan to subsequently enter the film into festivals and share it with the wider world.

We are looking to reach our target by July as we begin shooting, with the film due to be released in September 2021...

As students dealing with the financial burden COVID-19 has brought, as well as supporting ourselves during study,  we are leaning on your kind support to help us bring this vision to life.

How will the money be spent?

We are looking to raise a budget for this film of £6,000 that will cover the shoot itself, post-production and film festival entries.

With your help, the funds we raise will allow us to pay for the essential things we need to make this project happen. From equipment rental to crew payment, set design to costume needs and food/drink to insurance/COVID safety provisions - we will use every penny gratefully received to bring our concept to life and share it with you.

All donations - however small or large - are hugely appreciated.  If you feel inclined to share our page with others, we would be super grateful. All named donations received will be given a special mention in the credits of the film!

     Our commitment to COVID-19

We will be shooting in July, after COVID-19 restrictions are set to relinquished, however we are committed to ensure the set and surround areas are organised in such a way to minimise any risk of infection. As students, we are currently tested twice a week.

     Our commitment to the environment

Film sets are often a playground for disposable waste including plastic, food, clothing and a lot of energy. As filmmakers, we are committed to making our film in such a way that does not contribute to environmental degradation and that it sets a precedent on how a film can be made sustainably.

Our sustainable practices will include:

• No plastic.
• All costumes and props will be sourced second hand, either on loan to be returned after use, or reused
• Every cast and crew member will have their own refillable water bottle and all refreshments, including main meals, will be served in reusable utensils.
• The provenance of our food and make up will be examined to ensure it supports a sustainable supply chain.
• Our locations will be moved onto a renewable energy tariff where possible, and all unavoidable emissions generated through energy or transport will be offset.

Thank you for taking the time to support our concept and help us see out our Master's degree with a bang!
