A Plea from Uncle Eric: Help San’s Family Rebuild After the Nha Trang Floods
Help San's Family Rebuild After the Nha Trang Floods
My sister-in-law San, her husband Phuoc, and their 4-year-old son Xoai (“Mango”) lost nearly everything this week when unprecedented flooding struck Nha Trang, Vietnam.
Here is BBC coverage of the tragedy:https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/at-least-41-dead-as-relentless-rains-flood-vietnam/ar-AA1QQwlD?ocid=BingNewsSerp
Their home sits close to a river, and the water rose so fast that San had only moments to act. She carried little Xoai through chest-high water, escaping with only a few belongings before being rescued by her mother-in-law. In the chaos of evacuating, they had to leave behind their pet duck, who is still missing—but we’re hopeful it survived.
Phuoc was away working in Da Lat at the time—safe, but unable to reach his family.
Their home and belongings suffered major damage, and it may be 7–10 days (on an optimistic timeline) before electricity and plumbing are restored. Heavy rains and nightly flooding continue as of 11/22/25.
What They Need
To restart daily life, San’s family must replace several essential items, including:
• Refrigerator
• Stove
• Rice cooker
• Bedding
• Their motorbike (their main form of transportation and livelihood)
How You Can Help
I’m doing everything I can to support them. But as I finish my first year of married life and prepare for our first child, this feels like the right moment to graciously ask for help from my friends, family, and community.
Our hope is to raise these funds within the next 7–10 days, ideally by the time their power and plumbing come back on, so they can immediately begin rebuilding their home and routines.
Any amount—even a few dollars—will directly help San’s family recover from this devastating disaster.
Thank you for your support, generosity, and for sharing this campaign. ❤️
