Dad with Cancer: A Series of Unfortunate Events
By Andrew E. Poulson

My name is Andrew E. Poulson. I proudly served for thirteen years in the U.S. Army with the 10th Group, 12th Battalion, PSYOP Company. I am a Combat Wounded Disabled Veteran, a father, a husband, and a fighter. Who served in Iraq, survived IED blasts and burn pits, but now faces my hardest battle
In 2024, I was diagnosed with stage 3 late-stage cancer. What was meant to be a short visit to America turned into a life-or-death battle. My wife Jeciel and our children remain overseas in the Philippines, while I undergo painful cancer treatments alone in the U.S.
In February 2024, our youngest daughter was born two months premature and spent 47 days in the NICU due to severe preeclampsia and blood type complications. During that terrifying time, we weren’t even allowed to see her through the NICU window. She survived multiple life-threatening complications and infections. By some miracle, she’s now a joyful, healthy baby who fills our lives with light—and I’m fighting every day to hold her again before it’s too late.

How It All Started
That was the moment our financial spiral began.
We borrowed everything we could to survive the NICU bills. Insurance only covered a fraction of the $12,000. My family tried to help, but it wasn’t enough.
Then came another blow: a business partner’s licensing issue unexpectedly shut down one of our income streams for five months. We were kept in the dark and couldn’t pivot in time. That delay drained our reserves and left us financially devastated.

The Foreclosure Crisis
Just days ago, my wife was served an official foreclosure auction notice.
Our family home overseas is set to be sold on June 19, 2025, potentially wiping out over $200,000 in home equity—and leaving our two oldest children homeless.
This couldn’t come at a worse time. My wife’s U.S. visa medical exam is scheduled for May 21st—my birthday—and her interview is May 28th. But now, with her children at risk of homelessness, she may cancel the trip entirely… because what mother leaves her kids with nowhere to sleep?

The Embassy Is Stealing Our Time
our family visa application, has been stuck in limbo since November 2024.
We submitted everything. But the U.S. Embassy in Manila keeps stalling:
• “Processing...”
• “More documents needed...”
• “Wait 60 days...”
Every delay means another week my wife and children can’t be here.
Another week my cancer progresses.
Another moment I miss with my baby girl.
“Every daughter’s first love is her daddy.”
“How many more sleeps until we go to America and be with Daddy?”
– My 6-year-old son, almost every night
We don’t have an answer.

What We’re Asking For – $100,000 Goal
We are humbly asking for your support to stabilize our family and complete this mission:
• $50,000 – Stop the foreclosure and secure our children’s home
• $35,000 – Lifesaving immunotherapy if chemo and radiation fail
• $15,000 – Legal, immigration, and travel fees to reunite our family
• (Optional) Part of this will support our legal effort to pressure the U.S. Embassy and resolve the visa case before time runs out

Why This Hurts So Much
I served this country. I stood on the front lines, worked in Psychological Operations, and was exposed to burn pits and trauma that still affect me every single day.
But this—this is the battle I never trained for:
I’m not asking to be saved. I’m asking for one more chance to be a father.
I just want to hold my baby again… and not through a phone screen.

Even during all this, I’ve tried to stay active in community service.
I’m a member of the Philippine Eagles, and I’ve helped deliver food, shoes, and school supplies to families in need. Service has always been my purpose. Today, I find myself on the other side of need.
This is not just a fundraiser.
It’s a father’s story.
A love story.
A comeback story.
Please help me write the final chapter—and bring my family back together again.
