Rebuilding in the face of vandalism: United Roots needs your help
Civil unrest has been an ongoing side effect of the political and social turmoil that our nation has been dealing with in recent years. As incident after incident of police brutality and systematic disenfranchisement has occurred, U.S. citizens have become increasingly restless and anxious.
When people feel anxiety, they often lash out at those closest to them. As a result, sometimes the innocent get caught in the crosshairs of misdirected anger.
On Thursday, April 22, 2021, United Roots Community Youth Center (UR) was vandalized*. What’s worse, the damage done was significant. We’re asking for your support to raise funding to help with the repairs.
About United Roots: https://vimeo.com/216113507
UR is a 100% POC-led, a community-based nonprofit organization that is rooted in and reflective of Alameda County’s diversity. Some of the nation’s most innovative pioneers in the development of cultural competence and multicultural service delivery are members of the United Roots staff. The agency was born in 2009 from the convergence of four Oakland youth organizations. The mission of UR is to equip marginalized young people with the skills, knowledge, resources, and vision to become active change-makers in their communities.
United Roots serves hundreds of young entrepreneurs from the Oakland Bay area who are reimagining, rebuilding, and revitalizing the economic and cultural landscape of Oakland. The media projects, social enterprises, and collaborative partnerships of UR have reached thousands of Oakland’s youth residents.
We would like to get back to making a positive difference in the lives of our youth as quickly as possible, but we need your help to do so. If you are able, please donate, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
We will be providing donation receipts.
Thank you,
The United Roots Team
