Help Kababayans Affected by UP Fire
Donation protected
WHAT ARE WE RAISING FUNDS FOR?
We are raising funds to show our support and solidarity with friends, colleagues, and Kababayan who were affected by the fire that razed the University of the Philippines (UP) Faculty Center on April 1, 2016.
BACKGROUND:
On April 1, 2016, a fire razed most of UP Diliman's Faculty Center or Bulwagang Rizal. The Center houses the College of Arts & Letters (CAL), the College of Social Sciences & Philosophy (CSSP), and important galleries, archives, and faculty/staff space. The fire caused the loss of valuable books, teaching materials, art, office supplies, and personal belongings. Many of these are irreplaceable.
WHAT WILL MY SUPPORT BE USED FOR?
While we cannot fully comprehend the losses experienced by teachers, scholars, staff, students, and other Kababayan at UP, we want to show our support by helping defray some of the costs of recovering from this tragedy, as they continue their public service.
Many of our Kababayan who work at UP have acquired these materials through years of hard work. Your support will thus help alleviate the difficulties and losses incurred because of the fire.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE DISTRIBUTED?
After the end of the fundraising campaign, Dr. Robert Diaz, Assistant Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at OCAD University (Toronto, Canada), will coordinate with Dr. Amihan Bonifacio Ramolete ([email redacted]) and Dr. Grace H. Aguiling-Dalisay ([email redacted].edu.ph), the respective Deans of CAL and CSSP, so that the funds will be transfered to each College's respective university accounts. If requested by the donors, certain funds will be earmarked for specific departments.
Dr. Diaz will also send a letter conveying our solidarity with and support for those who were affected by the fire, on behalf of all the donors and community members who supported our fundraising efforts. This letter will be shared as an update on the gofundme page.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Dr. Diaz at [email redacted]du.ca.
Currency: Please note that because of the way the GoFundMe page is set up, donations are in Canadian currency. With the current exchange rate, 1 Canadian Dollar (1.00) is approximately .77 US Dollar (77 cents).
