Onze community center Un Paso Adelante (Een Stap Vooruit) in één van de sloppenwijken van Medellín, Colombia, heeft jouw hulp hard nodig. Andrea Gonzalez Duarte van Mi Barrio Mi Sueño en Yino Diaz van Niños del Futuro werken al vier jaar onvermoeibaar om kinderen en volwassenen in sloppenwijken zoals La Honda te empoweren.
Met o.a. projecten zoals Chefs del Futuro, een kookinitiatief voor de kinderen van de buurt, en BarrioBoxing, waar jonge meisjes en vrouwen leren zich te weren tegen dagelijks geweld en genderdiscriminatie, maken zij een wereld van verschil.
Nu is het tijd voor een nieuwe stap, Un Paso Adelante. Met jouw hulp willen we iets legendarisch creëreen, een plek waar generaties kinderen en volwassenen zich positief kunnen ontwikkelen. Een veilige ruimte waar jong en oud aan hun toekomst kan werken, waar iedereen welkom is om te groeien en hun dromen te realiseren in een liefdevolle omgeving.
We willen ons gemeenschapscentrum heropbouwen. Met veel dankbaarheid hebben we het afgelopen anderhalf jaar gebruikgemaakt van een houten hutje, maar nu is het tijd voor verandering. Doordat het gebouw letterlijk op instorten stond waren we genoodzaakt om het gebouw te slopen. Nu is het onze droom om een echt stenen gebouw te hebben met twee verdiepingen.
Dit is niet alleen voor de kinderen die dit als hun thuis zien, maar ook om onze impact duurzaam te maken. We hebben een gebouw nodig dat meer dan 200 kinderen per week kan huisvesten. Een plek waar we o.a. kunnen boksen, dansen, koken, en individuele- en groepscoachingsessies kunnen houden in een veilige en inspirerende omgeving.
Waarom is dit zo dringend nodig?
- Wist je dat 1 op de 3 kinderen in Colombia lijdt aan voedselonzekerheid?
- In Colombia wordt elke 3 minuten een vrouw mishandeld door haar partner, en elke 30 seconden wordt een meisje of vrouw slachtoffer van huiselijk geweld.
- De meeste verkrachtingszaken in de sloppenwijk La Honda betreffen meisjes tussen 6 en 11 jaar, en 84% van de gevallen gebeurt thuis.
Daarom is het zo belangrijk dat we, samen met jou, letterlijk kunnen bouwen aan een veilige plek voor deze kinderen. Een plek waar zij zich kunnen ontwikkelen tot de leiders van morgen.
Hoe gaan we dit doen?
Fase 1: In de eerste fase van ons bouwproject leggen we de basis voor een nieuw tijdperk van kansen en groei voor ons gemeenschapscentrum Un Paso Adelante.
- Sloop en Opruiming: Oude en vervallen structuur wordt afgebroken om ruimte te maken voor een frisse start.
- Fundering Constructie: Gezien de uitdagingen van het risicovolle terrein, investeren we in een robuuste fundering om de stabiliteit en duurzaamheid van onze nieuwe faciliteit te waarborgen.
- Ontwikkeling Eerste Verdieping: Met een solide fundering kan de eerste verdieping van het gebouw worden geconstrueerd. Deze verdieping zal de volgende essentiële faciliteiten bevatten:
- Community Keuken: Een speciale ruimte voor het bereiden van voedzame maaltijden voor de kinderen.
- Klaslokaal: Voorzien van de benodigde middelen voor kwalitatief onderwijs.
- Toilet: Voor sanitatie en hygiëne voor alle gebruikers.
- Ramen en Deuren: Installatie van ramen en deuren

Fase 2: In deze fase wordt de tweede verdieping gebouwd. Deze verdieping zal gericht zijn op sport en mentale gezondheid.
- Trap Installatie: Een stevige trap wordt geïnstalleerd voor veilige en gemakkelijke toegang tussen de verdiepingen, wat inclusiviteit en verbinding binnen onze ruimte bevordert.
- Multifunctionele Activiteitenruimte: De tweede verdieping is bedoeld voor verschillende activiteiten die de fysieke en mentale gezondheid bevorderen. Het wordt een levendige ruimte waar kinderen en volwassenen zichzelf kunnen uiten door middel van verschillende projecten zoals het Boks project,Vrouwenlessen (sociaal emotionele trainingen), Dans project, Yoga en Meditatielessen.

Fase 3: In de laatste fase richten we ons op het verfijnen en verbeteren van de functionaliteit en esthetiek van ons gemeenschapscentrum. Fase drie vertegenwoordigt de voltooiing van het gebouw.
- Terras Ontwikkeling: Boven op het gebouw creëren we een klein terras voor stadslandbouw, waar kinderen kunnen leren over het verbouwen van hun eigen fruit en groenten. Deze initiatieven bevorderen niet alleen gezonde eetgewoonten maar ook een gevoel van milieubewustzijn en zelfvoorzienendheid.
- Interieurontwerp: Elk hoekje van het centrum zal worden geschilderd en versierd op een kindvriendelijke manier, wat een gevoel van veiligheid, comfort en verbondenheid bevordert. Levendige kleuren, aansprekende kunstwerken en interactieve elementen zullen een omgeving creëren waarin kinderen zich gewaardeerd en ondersteund voelen.
- Buitengevel Renovatie: Het hele gebouw krijgt een nieuwe verflaag en aan de buitenkant komt er een mooie muurschildering waar iedereen van kan genieten en het op deze manier echt het hard wordt van de community.

Our community center, Un Paso Adelante (A Step Forward), located in one of the slums of Medellín, Colombia, urgently needs your help. Andrea Gonzalez Duarte from Mi Barrio Mi Sueño and Yino Diaz from Niños del Futuro have tirelessly worked for four years to empower children and adults in slums like La Honda.
Through projects such as Chefs del Futuro, a cooking initiative for local children, and BarrioBoxing, where young girls and women learn to defend themselves against daily violence and gender discrimination, they are making a world of difference.
Now it’s time for the next step, Un Paso Adelante. With your help, we want to create something legendary. A place where generations of children and adults can positively develop. A safe space where young and old can work on their future, where everyone is welcome to grow and realize their dreams in a loving environment. We want to rebuild our community center. With much gratitude, we have used a wooden hut for the past year and a half, but now it’s time for a change. Because the building was collapsing, we were forced to demolish it. Now our dream is to have a real stone building with two floors.
This is not only for the children who see this as their home but also to make our impact sustainable. We need a building that can accommodate more than 200 children per week. A place where we can, among other things, box, dance, cook, and hold individual and group coaching sessions in a safe and inspiring environment.
Why is this so urgently needed?
- Did you know that 1 in 3 children in Colombia suffers from food insecurity?
- In Colombia, a woman is abused by her partner every 3 minutes, and every 30 seconds a girl or woman becomes a victim of domestic violence.
- Most rape cases in the La Honda slum involve girls aged 6 to 11, and 84% of these cases occur at home.
That’s why it’s important that we, together with you, build a safe place for these children. A place where they can develop into the leaders of tomorrow.
How will we do this?
Phase 1: In the first phase of our construction project, we lay the foundation for a new era of opportunities and growth for our community center Un Paso Adelante.
- Demolition and Cleanup: The old and worn structure will be torn down to make way for a fresh start.
- Foundation Construction: Given the challenges of the risky terrain, we will invest in a robust foundation to ensure the stability and durability of our new facility.
- Development of the First Floor: With a solid foundation, we can construct the first floor of the building. This floor will include the following essential facilities:
- Community Kitchen: A special space for preparing nutritious meals for the children.
- Classroom: Equipped with the necessary resources for quality education.
- Restroom: For sanitation and hygiene for all users.
- Windows and Doors: Installation of windows and doors.

It will be a vibrant space where children and adults can express themselves through various projects such as the Boxing Project, Women’s Lessons (social-emotional training), Dance Project, Yoga, and Meditation Classes.
- Installation of Windows and Doors.

Phase 3: In the final phase, we focus on refining and enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of our community center. Phase three represents the completion of the building.
- Terrace Development: On top of the building, we will create a small terrace for urban agriculture, where children can learn about growing their own fruits and vegetables. These initiatives not only promote healthy eating habits but also foster a sense of environmental awareness and self-sufficiency.
- Interior Design: Every corner of the center will be painted and decorated in a child-friendly way, promoting a sense of safety, comfort, and connection. Vibrant colors, engaging artwork, and interactive elements will create an environment where children feel valued and supported.
- Facade Renovation: The entire building will be repainted, and a beautiful mural will be added to the outside for everyone to enjoy, truly making it the heart of the community.

En Nuestro salón "Un Paso Adelante", ubicado en el barrio La Honda, Manrique, uno de los barrios mas vulnerables de Medellín, Colombia, necesitamos tu ayuda urgentemente! Andrea Gonzalez Duarte de Mi Barrio Mi Sueño y Yino Díaz de Niños del Futuro, han trabajado incansablemente durante cuatro años para empoderar a niños y adultos en barrio La Honda.
Con proyectos como Chefs del Futuro, una iniciativa culinaria y comedor para los niños del barrio, y BarrioBoxing, donde las jóvenes aprenden a defenderse contra la violencia diaria y la discriminación de género, los cuales están marcando una gran diferencia.
Ahora es el momento de dar un nuevo paso, Un Paso Adelante. Con tu ayuda, queremos crear algo legendario: un lugar donde generaciones de niños y adultos puedan desarrollarse positivamente, un espacio seguro donde jóvenes y mayores puedan trabajar en su futuro, un lugar donde todos sean bienvenidos para crecer y realizar sus sueños en un entorno lleno de amor y cuidado.
Queremos reconstruir nuestro centro comunitario, con mucha gratitud, hemos usado una casita de madera durante el último año y medio, pero ahora es tiempo de un cambio. Debido a que la casita estaba literalmente a punto de colapsar, nos vimos obligados a tumbarla. Ahora es nuestro sueño tener un salón digno con dos pisos y con la infraestructura adecuada que permita realizar nuestros sueños.
Esto no solo es para los niños que consideran este lugar como su hogar, sino también para hacer nuestro impacto sostenible. Necesitamos un salón que pueda albergar a más de 200 niños por semana, un lugar donde podamos practicar boxeo, bailar, cocinar y ofrecer sesiones de coaching individuales y grupales en un entorno seguro e inspirador.
¿Por qué es tan urgente?
- ¿Sabías que 1 de cada 3 niños en Colombia sufre de inseguridad alimentaria?
- En Colombia, cada 3 minutos una mujer es maltratada por su pareja, y cada 30 segundos una niña o mujer es víctima de violencia doméstica.
- La mayoría de los casos de violación en el barrio marginal La Honda involucran a niñas de entre 6 y 11 años, y el 84% de los casos ocurre en el hogar.
Por eso es tan importante que, junto contigo, podamos construir literalmente un lugar seguro para estos niños. Un espacio donde puedan desarrollarse para ser los líderes del mañana.
¿Cómo lo haremos?
Fase 1: En la primera fase de nuestro proyecto de construcción sentaremos las bases para una nueva era de oportunidades y crecimiento para nuestro centro comunitario Un Paso Adelante.
- Demolición y Limpieza: La estructura vieja y en ruinas será demolida para hacer espacio para un nuevo comienzo. Construcción de Fundaciones: Dada la dificultad del terreno, invertiremos en una base sólida para asegurar la estabilidad y durabilidad de nuestras nuevas instalaciones.
- Desarrollo del Primer Piso: Con una base sólida, se podrá construir el primer piso del edificio. Este piso contará con las siguientes instalaciones esenciales:
- Cocina Comunitaria: Un espacio especial para preparar comidas nutritivas para los niños.
- Sala: Equipado con los recursos necesarios para una educación de calidad.
- Baño: Para la sanidad y la higiene de todos los usuarios. Instalación de ventanas y puertas

- Sala Multifuncional: El segundo piso estará destinado a varias actividades que promuevan la salud física y mental. Será un espacio vibrante donde niños y adultos podrán expresarse a través de proyectos como el proyecto de Boxeo, Lecciones para Mujeres (entrenamientos socioemocionales), Proyecto de Danza, Clases de Yoga y Meditación.
- Instalación de Ventanas y Puertas

- Desarrollo de Terraza: En la parte superior del edificio crearemos una pequeña terraza para la agricultura urbana, donde los niños podrán aprender sobre el cultivo de sus propias frutas y verduras. Estas iniciativas no solo fomentan hábitos alimenticios saludables, sino también una conciencia ambiental y autosuficiencia.
- Diseño Interior: Cada rincón del centro será pintado y decorado de manera amigable para los niños, creando un sentido de seguridad, confort y conexión. Colores vivos, obras de arte atractivas y elementos interactivos crearán un ambiente donde los niños se sientan valorados y apoyados.
- Renovación de Fachada: El salón recibirá una nueva capa de pintura y se añadirá un hermoso mural en el exterior para que todos puedan disfrutarlo y para que realmente se sienta el corazón de la comunidad.
