The goal is simple: help people who are differently-abled to reach optimal levels of health and fitness for life. UFIT, Unique Fitness and Independence Training, is a specialty gym providing fitness training for people with disabilities.
The vison of UFIT is to provide clients with personal training that is unique and specialized with the goal of fostering independence. Families with children moving into adulthood see the need for appropriate and truly beneficial fitness for their family members. UFIT has met this need and hopes to continue to expand across the city to provide trained and experienced trainers to work with these very special individuals.
After retiring as an adapted physical education teacher, Peggy Mills, M.A., CPT-NASM, opened UFIT in May, 2018. UFIT has tripled the number of clients in a short 6 months and has high hopes that many more adults will be served through this one-of-a-kind fitness center.
The needs of UFIT are:
· Offer scholarships to families with limited financial resources.
· Offer specialized personal training to those with disabilities including, but not limited to, autism, Down syndrome, Prader Willi, obesity, cerebral palsy, and amputees.
· Teach a customized visual system to allow clients to take ownership of their workouts with as much independence as possible.
· Grow our volunteer system to allow youth and adults to be trained to serve as role models for clients who are differently-abled. Providers, caregivers and parents will also be trained to use the system alongside UFIT clients.
The clients at UFIT will benefit directly from your generosity with improved health, self-confidence and independence.
