March on Washington Funding (UCWU)
Donation protected
Women's Union (at Union College) is fundraising to subsidize the cost of the bus ride to the Women's March on Washington DC the day after the President Elect's Inauguration on January 21st. The bus would drive overnight, leaving on the 20th, to get us to DC by 10 am on the 21st and then we would leave after the march to get home late that night.
We have talked to two transportation companies so far and just initiated dialogue with a third to find the best deal. So far it would cost anywhere from $60-$90 per student to travel and this is extremely pricy for a college student's budget.
We are trying to provide an opportunity for student activism on a national level; this is an opportunity that will be in future generations' textbooks and it is very important for Union students' voices to be heard at this point in time in America.
This opportunity for activism is historical and monumental. We want Union students to have an affordable opportunity to participate. This march is not only for intersectional women's rights but is also advocating for the rights of minorities, immigrants, and all underrepresented communities. This opportunity is an outlet for all student activists who want to make a difference.
According to a Facebook event we made, we already have 24 people who for sure want to go and 37 people who are interested in going. Women's Union thinks this is an incredible opportunity to build a strong sense of community among Union students who share similar platforms and this march will serve as a commonality that will unify us and help us become even stronger as people, as a school, and in our small club organizations.
As student activists, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help makea difference and follow in the footsteps of female activists like Alice Paul, who organized the march for suffrage on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC a hundred years ago.
We would be thankful for any size donation and it would mean the world to us to have your support.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
