Tyrus Doesn’t Need a Car….He wants an Education Opportunity of a Lifetime!
HEY EVERYBODY!! GUESS WHAT? I'm Tyrus Holt. I am a 15 year old sophomore at ‘Urban Prep Academy for Young Men, High School’ located on the Westside of Chicago, Illinois. I am very happy to be a part of the Urban Prep Family, especially since my school produces a 100% success placement rate of young men that are accepted into Universities and Colleges at graduation time!!
When I was 12 and 13 years old, I hated school and I didn’t care. All I believed, then, was that I was a failure. I was getting D’s and F’s on my report cards in 7th and 8th grade and most of my grammar school years, but Urban Prep has changed my life! Because of my hard work, my great MENTORS and the OPPORTUNITY I was given to attend Urban Prep, I am now getting A’s and B’s! I maintain a 3.0 GPA and I have been awarded the ‘Gold Tie’ for academic achievement 4 TIMES since I have been at Urban Prep! (Take a look at my pic...these are 2 of my 4 ties)! WE BELIEVE!
The school believes in me! I believe in me! WILL YOU BELIEVE IN ME??
So, now, here's another opportunity for me. As a result of my high academic achievements, I have been nominated to represent my school and my community in the Envision Program’s National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Technology & Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley.
For a young African American male such as me, opportunities like this only come so often, but my mom taught me that hard work pays off!
By attending the National Youth Leadership Forum, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential career exploration in Engineering and Technology.
I LOVE playing video games, but what I LOVE even more is learning about what designs and technologies make games work. I am FACINATED by designing of programs and MATH! I'm REAL good at MATH!
I aspire to learn about design and innovation, so I believe this opportunity will allow me to step into my dream of becoming an architect and reach my career goals. This will be a POWERFUL experience, which will enable ME (the OLD CLASS CLOWN, the one that some people, including my absent father, expected to FAIL in life), the opportunity to interact with respected professionals in various fields. I can also build relationships with students who will be my future colleagues!!
I have received a partial scholarship award in the amount of $750 from the Envision EMI program, but my participation in the program depends on whether I can raise an additional $2,000 in sponsorships.
I must be enrolled in my program no later than Friday, April 3, 2015 to secure my spot in this AWSOME opportunity of a life time! I have been investing every dollar I can of my own money that I get from odd jobs around the house to make sure I don’t miss out on this unique experience. Your support for my sponsorship request would be greatly appreciated.
Imagine if you had been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were my age and were unable to participate for lack of funds. My mother is a single parent and she works HARD to provide for me but sometimes, money is tight. (She helps people who suffer from Mental Illness). That is why I am writing today.
I am EXCITED about this possibility, but I need HELP! I thank all who can assist me in meeting my goal! God is on my side, and I am determined to be successful in my mission! Thank you kindly, for your consideration.
