Thank you so much for your messages of concern for our family in Northern Panay, Philippines. We are fortunate that our family in Iloilo City was spared from the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan. As we are counting our blessings we are also looking for ways to help rebuild and assist typhoon victims. Our goal is to raise $37,500 for 300 families in Northern Panay. We hope to provide financial assistance to buy food, help rebuild homes and also provide a care package for Christmas.
As many of you know, Typhoon Haiyan devastated Tacloban but outlying areas in Northern Panay such as Sara, Estancia, Concepcion, San Rafael, Carles, San Dionisio, Batad, Ajuy, Lemery, Balasan and Barotac Viejo were also severely affected. According to a local news source, 158,188 families were displaced in Northern Panay. Their houses were either partially or totally destroyed while 162 persons were confirmed dead:
We have family members that live less than two hours from these affected regions and are desperate to help. With your contribution we will work with our family members in Iloilo City and provide 300 displaced families with $100 worth of building supplies or food, whichever need is greater. In addition, we will prepare $25 worth of food care packages for Christmas time. The Philippines is primarily a Catholic nation and the Christmas season is one of great importance to the Philippine people.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and to provide assistance to our devastated country. Our goal is to provide some glimmer of hope for 300 families. $125 per family may not seem like a lot of money but it is the difference between life and death in this third world country.
With Deepest Gratitude,
Roxanne Muzones Tobiaski
