Stroke Recovery Assistance for Tyeisha S.

On March 9, 2019 my dear sister Tyeisha (Ty) suffered from sepsis and as a by product suffered a massive stroke. Our oldest niece and her eldest daughter rushed her to the local hospital's emergency room.  Ty was immediately triaged but because her vitals were at their worse she was immediately taken for bloodwork and other testing to determine exactly what the issue was. Ty was ultimately placed in an induced medical coma.  I got the call on March 10, 2019 at about 1:30am from the doctor telling me that Ty had  been diagnosed with sepsis, the result of an infected tooth that had travelled to her brain, and he would need my permission to perform a craniotomy so that he may clean some of the infection out.  I agreed. Ty survived the craniotomy, but was not expected to live.  On day three post craniotomy during a routine CT scan the doctors came to me and stated that they had more bad news. I could not imagine what could have been worse when she was already on her death bed.  The doctors shared that Ty had suffered from a massive stroke and that "if" she survived she would never walk or talk again, she would have to live with feeding tube and trach for the rest of her life, that she would not know who "we" her family are and would pretty much be in a vegetative state for the rest of her life, that she would need round the clock care i.e. long-term care facility.  Though my family and I appreciated and valued the opinions of every medical professional who worked tirelessly to care for Ty we are believers of God. He is the greatest Physician we know and we choose to believe that Ty will be healed and restored. Ty's recovery has nothing short of a miracle.  She as undergone 3 surgery's opening her skull, having a feeding tube and tracheotomy and she is still as vibrant as can be.

This road to recovery has been an expensive and weary one. Ty has medical insurance that is rendered through the state and the coverage is very limited and covers basically the bare minimum.   We have to purchase many things  out of pocket that simply aren't covered by the insurance either because it may not be deemed as a necessity or Ty has maxed how much she can obtain of a product in a month per the insurance.  There truly is no insurance that would cover a tragedy such as this and all that is needed thereafter.

Aside from having to finance the things that insurance won't cover,  as a family (her two daughters, my daughter and I) we always face the challenge of finding housing that is able to accommodate us all and transportation that will also accommodate us and continue to add value to Ty's everyday quality of life for the long run.

In addition to accepting donations for the additional cost of  things I have to provide for Ty I am also asking for donations to help fund the purchase of a bariatric wheelchair accessible van/vehicle. Her recovery has been remarkable in many ways however, Ty is limited to being home rather than out in the community being social thereby reducing her quality of life. I  would like to accomplish this goal once the funds are fully raised.  The support from those near and far will mean so much to our family. Since Ty has began to speak she has been very vocal in her expression of wanting to  go outside.  We love Ty and we want to ensure that she is able to participate in life and it not pass her by.  Thank you!!
