Meet Twix—and Why She Deserves a Chance

Hi, my name is Robert, and this is my dog Twix. She’s not just a pet—she’s my best friend, my protector, and the reason I keep pushing forward every single day.

Recently, Twix was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect. In simple terms, PDA is a small blood vessel in the heart that never closed the way it was supposed to after birth. Because of this, her heart is forced to work far harder than it should, sending extra blood into her lungs and risking serious heart failure.

The good news is that PDA is treatable and curable with surgery. With the right procedure, Twix can live a full, healthy, and playful life like any other dog. Without it, her time is limited.

The Reality of Our Situation

I want to be completely honest about where we’re at. Right now, I’m homeless. Twix and I do everything side by side, and she keeps me going when things get tough. But being homeless means I don’t have the financial means to cover the surgery she needs.

That’s why my sister will be handling all of the finances with the veterinarian and directly with this GoFundMe. Every dollar donated will go straight to Twix’s medical care, her surgery, and any aftercare she needs to recover. I may not have a roof over my head, but I refuse to let my best friend lose her chance at life because of my circumstances.

The Costs

Treating PDA is not cheap. Depending on the procedure (traditional surgery or the less-invasive catheter option), the cost usually falls between:

$4,000 – $6,000 for the surgery

$6,000 – $8,000 for the catheter-based procedure

These numbers include exams, the surgery itself, anesthesia, hospitalization, and follow-up care. It’s a huge amount, but it’s also the price of saving Twix’s life—and that’s something I can’t put a value on.
