As many of you may know my brother Troy Smallwood has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Oropharynx/ Neck Cancer. Troys symptoms came on quick and sudden and the cancer is spreading quickly. Troys team of Doctors believe he has a great chance of curing this with Chemo and Radiation treatments. These treatments are expected to begin within the next few days. Doctors are estimating Troy will be out of work for quite awhile, likely 6 months to 1 year if all goes well.
Troy has been a dedicated employee for 20 plus years and if you know him, you know Troy DOESNT like to miss work. He is already repeatedly saying "I have to get back to work" because that's who he is, a hard working and responsible man. Troys company has graciously agreed to carry on his medical benefits for which we are forever grateful. Troy however didn't carry any disability insurance at work. Troy is left without an income while away from work. Like all of us, Troy has obligations to his household and his children with whom he lives. Not only is Troy missing an income, his family is as well because he has been very ill and needed 24 support. The everyday bills, a high school senior daughter, and now the incoming insurance co-pays and deductibles are going to add up.
Troy is very proud man and would never ask for help financially but I feel inclined to start this page for those of you who feel the same. Our family has had several people ask how they can help and if we had a GO FUND ME so here it is. We may not be able to control the cancer but we can help this way. As Troy would say "Help a brother out!"
As we all can only imagine the devastation Troy must be feeling getting such tragic news at 47 years old. His statement to me was " I just want a chance" , meaning a chance to beat cancer. He like anyone dreams of continuing to watch his girls grow and start families of their own. So let's all do what we can to make fighting for that dream a little easier. Our family is truly greatful for anything you all feel compelled to give and for all the positive thoughts, love and prayers for Troy. It is truly heart warming to feel all the love for him. Troy intends to KICK CANCERS ASS so let's be his warriors.
