Triple-Negative Cancer: A Mother's Struggle
Donation protected
On Monday, March 17th, I was diagnosed with triple-negative, grade 3, aggressive breast cancer. This marks me as the fifth person in my father's family to receive this diagnosis. I was aware that I carried the BRCA1 cancer gene and had started taking precautions to avoid developing cancer, but it seems that the cancer took hold before I could finish my preventive measures.
Hearing the news was devastating. Not only was I diagnosed with cancer, but my job also informed me that I would be terminated due to running out of sick time from all my medical appointments. Processing all of this has been incredibly hard.
However, I am deeply grateful for my two sons, my family, and everyone who has reached out with heartfelt support to help me fight this battle. Currently, I have no income, and my insurance is set to expire at the end of this month, so I am trying to figure out my options for coverage. I will be receiving treatment at the Piper Breast Center in Minneapolis, and the costs of traveling back and forth are starting to add up, which will continue throughout my treatments—expected to last anywhere from six months to a year.
I have never been one to ask for help; I usually manage on my own. But I feel like I have lost control in this area and will need assistance with bills, groceries, and medical expenses. I am a fighter, and with my amazing support system, I believe I can overcome this. To alleviate some of the stress, I will need help financially. Any contribution would be immensely appreciated. I hate that I have to resort to this, but it is a difficult time, and I am thankful for any support anyone can offer. I appreciate each and every one of you.
