Trekking for Shanti Kali School

Shanti Kali Primary School lies in a mountainous region of Nepal, where resources are very limited and students live on the very basics, even arriving to school hungry due to lack of food. Despite this students take pride in their education while utilizing their creativity and imagination in the arts, social and play. Their dedicated teachers and principal devote their lives in trying to develop each student's potential to its highest. Opportunities do not come often in this remote area and it is the donors and volunteers who are able to help make an impact, whether short or long term.
I personally made a trip to this school with my daughter in 2016 and was fortunate to spend time within the classrooms and working amongst these enthusiastic students. The students and teachers were truly appreciative with just our presence and basic school supplies we had donated to them. They were eager to learn many words and phrases in English as mastering the English language was as important as their own. While there, many villagers also came to us with health related questions. Nepal lacks an organized healthcare system and there is definitely a need for just basic medical supplies.
In the spring of 2019, I will be joining a group of trekkers in the 12 day Manaslu Circuit Trek, which originates near this region. A brief stop to the school is planned prior to the start of this trek, where I and a few from my group will be delivering goods. We are hoping that others consider joining with monetary donations in the purchase of these much needed educational, nutritional and medical supplies. Our plan is to purchase all the goods in the capital city of Kathmandu (where more supplies are available) in order to support their economy. The country is still rebuilding since the devastating Nepal earthquake in 2015.
