Treating Scoliosis, arthrogryposis & clubbed feet…

Hello to the world this is Kassandra and Marico speaking the parents of Rico Hall.

In 2018, I found out I was carrying my fourth child while going through family hard times. My fiancé and I decided to keep our baby because of everything we were going through and we just knew it was a blessing even though my doctors and specialist knew there was something not right from previous sonograms. On Jan. 30 2019, our one and only baby boy entered the world in St Lucie county. When he was born the doctors and my fiancé immediately noticed his legs were not okay. I was so messed up from the medications, I really didn’t know what was going on until my fiancé walked back over to me to tell me his legs were not positioned the way there suppose to be. All these questions then started racing through our minds. As more and more doctors and specialists entered the room, nobody seemed to know why or how and didn’t even know where to start so they immediately reached out to Miami Children’s Hospital and then he was transported by ambulance there. At the time, I couldn’t go because I was high risk after just giving birth and was not permitted to go  with my son. As we were packing his things and getting ready for him to leave us. My mind just raced with thoughts of why and how could this happen and if there was something I did wrong. I was so worried and could not stop crying and I eventually start to suffer from post-partum depression which I didn't even notice at the time. The next morning comes, I get released from the hospital go home change and drive straight to Miami to be by our baby boy's side. When we get there, we go to the NICU for newborns and my baby was in this big room and being treated like a king, they loved him! As we sat there and waited so many different nurses and doctors walked in and out. Eventually, a group of specialists come into the room and talk to us about everything and what was going on. And tell us that RJ is being diagnosed with Arthrogyposis and clubbed feet. They assigned us 4 to 5 different specialists that all work together. Naturally we asked so many different questions. They proceed to tell us that they want to keep him for a week to see if they can start bringing his legs down and monitor him. So days go by, the discomfort I watched my poor baby go through. His screaming cries every time someone would move him a certain way and I just knew this couldn’t be the way he would live forever! So, now we’re back home between visiting the pediatrician, orthopedic, craniologist, plastic surgeon, urologist, genetics doctors & and trying to get him to his Physical Therapy/Occupational therapy appointments. He started with a head helmet due to the shape of his scull and then casting on his legs & feet was also done. My poor baby was miserable with everything that was being done to him. A couple of weeks after his 2nd or 3rd casting they decided to do a little incision on both his feet to loosen the tendons in his ankles. He eventually heals, we go back to see an orthopedic to be measured for his special orthopedic shoes. At this point, we are traveling back and forth to Miami maybe 2 times a week for a 3 hour drive from home and back and also trying to keep up with his local therapies. Moving into 2020, we continue his therapies but then of course Covid took place and everything was shut down. As time goes by, we notice that his feet are slowly reverting back to how they were when he was born. We try another set of casting once things start to open back up and still no progression. One day, I came across this random lady out at a health event in Traditions. And we start talking about my son's condition and I was just so shocked that she had heard of his condition and was familiar with it, it was  like finally someone who can relate! So she proceeds to recommend Dr. Feldman at Paley Institue, which is located in Palm Beach county and only 45 minutes from our county.  So, I did all the research I could and I reached out to them. They automatically got back out to us and wanted us to come in for a consultation. The only difference between this doctor and the previous doctor is that he DOES NOT take our Medicaid insurance which really put us back SO much!! The new doctor told us that he has scoliosis which we never knew about so then we were ordered to do an MRI and eventually referred to see a Neurosurgeon to have minor spinal surgery. After the spinal surgery, we will immediately have to start back to casting and see our new club foot doctor and eventually start the treatments. We are in need of $40,000.00 to even get a scheduled date and start his ongoing treatments and therapies needed. Please feel free to reach out to us, my mom, Marilyn and/or Rico's mom, Brandi. At this time, we only have a gofundme set up, no Cash App or Zelle!!! You can also send checks or money orders made to Marilyn Quinones and in the memo Rico Hall and mail to the address below. All proceeds are to benefit RJ and all his medical bills.
