My longtime friends have had to handle many medical expenses over the last 30 years.They have been married for nearly 50 years and have carried the financial weight of these expenses, somehow maintaining their bills. Donna has been subject many medical issues. She had to retire from her teaching career due to those issues. Scott who is a retired teacher of 40 years has born these expenses over the years and was able to meet those expenses above and beyond the insurance coverage. However, after his retirement from teaching it became increasingly difficult to cover the expenses involved with travel to and from hospitals and overnight stays to be with Donna prior to and after surgeries. Scott is her primary caregiver. Therefore, even having a part time job would be impossible. She was diagnosed with systemic sclerosis, a rare genetic autoimmune disease. Her appointment with three specialist requiring overnight stays and travel will be ongoing. The bottom line is that they have exhausted their financial resources and need your help. A recent surgery in Bangor involved a shoulder replacement. We are asking specifically for help with their cost for travel expenses.
