Send Twin Peaks OM Problem 4 Team to World Finals

Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment. Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential. OotM proves that students can have fun while they learn.
The Twin Peaks Charter Academy Middle School Balsa (P4) Team ranked first place at the regional tournament, first place at the state tournament, and now they've been invited to compete at the global level where they will compete alongside 800 teams from 26 countries. Their challenge was to design, build, and test a 15-gram structure made only of balsa wood and glue and test it by placing weights on it. The team tests its structure in a performance where it first uses a device to toss it. Odyssey of the Mind does not allow any form of outside assistance. The team members create the vision, write the script, and design and build all of the props and perform all on their own! The coaches offer guidance and encouragement while teaching the team to explore possibilities and learn from others. The team has a strict budget of $145 and relies on the creative use of recycled materials to make this performance possible.
This amazing team is headed to Michigan State University at East Lansing, Michigan. The experience is unparalleled but the costs associated with registration fees, housing and travel are beyond what the team can afford. They need nearly $10,000 to compete in this event.
World Finals has been their goal for many years and this is their opportunity to shine! When asked what this program means to her, teammate Natalie says “It helps us to learn what we’re best at, how to work with others, and how to ask for help from our teammates.”
